The Centre has recently expanded its offerings to include Direct Laser Metal Sintering (DMLS), as well. De Montfort University (UK) The Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing Group has a program to develop machinery combining RP with high speed printing technology to produce parts a 1,000 times faster then current RP units. The project is in collaboration with industrial partners, including Ford Motor Corporation and Black and Decker. Another program is aimed toward the use of advanced engineering and manufacturing technology in the field of maxillofacial and orthopaedic surgery.
Ecole Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne [EPFL] (Switzerland) The Center for Advanced Rapid Tooling (CART) focuses on production of plastic injection molding tooling using advanced manufacturing processes such as Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), High Speed Milling (HSM), and Electric Discharge Machining (EDM). The EPFL Microsystems Institute is working on Microstereolithography using photopolymers.

inspire AG / irpd (Switzerland) [SLM] [A new name for FHS St.Gallen, University of Applied Sciences IRPD.] The Institute for Rapid Product Development in close cooperation with industrial associates develops powder materials for SLS and SLM, as well as process chains and follow-on operations. Four SLS powder materials used worldwide have resulted from these activities. 3D-Scanning of physical objects, data acquisition, preparation and reversing to CAD data models are further competences. Medical data elaboration directly from CT or MRI scans for the fabrication of pre-surgical planning models or the production of custom-made implants are additional activities of the institute. Applications of Layer Manufacturing technologies extend from the additive fabrication of prototypes or functional models in plastic or metal, to the fabrication of complex tooling inserts with conformal cooling, and the direct series production of small lots for Rapid Manufacturing. Loughborough University (UK) The Rapid Manufacturing Research Group of De Montfort University moved to Loughborough University's Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the end of 2001. Among the Group's research topics are: design for rapid manufacture; direct fabrication by ultrasonic consolidation; laminate tooling for PU moulding; management, organization and implementation of rapid manufacturing; powder fusion of functionally graded materials; and rapid tooling for die-casting.
Middle East Technical University (Turkey) 
National Technical University of Athens (Greece) Established in 1996, NTUA's RP Laboratory conducts research in the areas of RP use for new product development, RP-RT support of production methods, industrial metrology and reverse engineering (RE). The university has an LOM1015 RP system and two CMM machines (DEA, FaroArm). It has participated in National & European Union RTD programs and has been cooperating with Hellenic industries.
