ReverseEngineering.com Formerly HiRes, Inc. Provides HIPP™ (HighRES Integrated Point Processor), a stand alone application providing control over scanned 3D point clouds. HIPP can handle millions of points and directly processes raw digitized data from CMMs, PCMMs, laser trackers, laser scanners and optical scanners. Also offers plug-in software for such CAD programs as Unigraphics, Solid Edge, Pro/E, Solidworks and others for directly interfacing CMM's and other digitizers.

Right Hemisphere Software Ltd. (New Zealand) 3D Exploration is a 3D viewer and translator with a Windows Explorer-like interface. It supports all popular 3D and 2D file formats. Navigation tools allow viewing 3D objects and scenes from any angle.

Ripplon Software Inc. (Canada) Provides 'topeScope, an interactive viewer and file translator for Mac computers, running under Mac OS X. In demo mode, 'topeScope is a free STL viewer. The Plus version can read and write a variety file formats such as stl, obj, ply and others, as well as perform a number of mesh operations.

Russian Academy of Sciences The Institution provides RP file compression and viewer programs.

SensAble Technologies, Inc. Provides FreeForm, a 3D touch-enabled modeling system. The program uses voxel-based technology instead of typical CAD mathematics which permits creating complex, highly-detailed organic shapes, such as those in custom implants, or in aerospace and automotive design. Freeform is intended for use with Sensable's haptic devices.

Simpleware Ltd. (UK) ScanFE^TM provides a fully automated and robust conversion of 3D data such as CT, MRI and Ultrasound into rapid prototyped and finite element models. ScanFE^TM generates volumetric meshes which can be exported as STL and/or finite element files. Applications range from medical engineering to manufacturing and reverse engineering.

Solid Concepts SolidView applications enable communication between departments and vendors, without the need for 2D drawings and have tools for rapid prototyping. Bridgeworks software is an automatic RP support generator.

Joe Slayton Wilbur allows manipulation of digital elevation models. Main use is in terrain mapping, but can also be applied to other problems

PolyMLib provides geometric processing methods to repair, optimize, review, and edit triangle mesh models. The company also supplies a wide variety of other kernel-level software products.

Synthetic Prototype, Inc. Synthetic Prototype is a photorealistic CAD rendering program designed to avoid the need for RP in some cases.

Tamasoft (Japan) Pepakura Designer allows the creation paper craft 3-dimensional models from 3D data. Available as shareware, but some advanced features are limited. Pepakura does not contain software to create the original 3D models, but instead translates them to a 2D printable format which can be folded to produce origami-like models. Supports some 3D file formats from software such as 3D Studio, LightWave and Softimage.

TNO Industrial Prototyping Flash TL Engineer^TM allows creation of 2D drawings from STL files and has STL file manipulation features such as editing, splitting, slicing, analysis, reduction and painting.

TNO Industrial Technology The TNO STL Draftangulator allows creation of draft angles and links the STL product geometry to the STL tool geometry.

Igor G.Tebelev StlView is a Windows program for analyzing, fixing, embedding or linking 3D solid models to documents that support OLE. Imports STL format files and can peform numerous functions. Exports to several popular file formats. StlTools is an AutoCAD application that provides extrusion, rotation, spiral, helix, screw, cable, mesh functions and allows creation of free form solids. Supports input/output of STL files.

Technodigit (France) Provides 3DReshaper® software for converting 3D point cloud files to 3D meshes. An evaluation version can be downloaded free.

Tesis Software (Belgium) 3D/Vision provides automatic translation and repair of CAD Neutral files. Easily handles very large part files and assemblies ( > 100 MB). Interprets and operates on IGES models from CATIA, Pro/E, IDEAS, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, SolidEdge, etc. Stores results as IGES, VDA-FS and STL. Mold Adviser provides automatic draft angle analysis, automatic parting line/surface generation, and automatic splitting of the model into core and cavity.

think3, Inc. (Italy) Offers Thinkreshape, a reverse engineering suite that permits capturing a mathematical model of a physical object.

TransMagic, Inc. TransMagic BASIC offers a suite of translators that support CAD data exchange among industry standard file formats such as IGES, STEP, Parasolid, ACIS, HSF and STL. STL PRO enables viewing, repair and conversion of 3D CAD models into STL files for uses such as additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and FEA.

Trix Systems AB (Sweden) Drawing Center V6 opens DXF/DWG versions from AutoCAD R12 to 2008. It also opens DWF, HPGL plot files, DXF CAD files, Acrobat PDF and over 100 raster formats including TIF, BMP, GIF, JPEG, etc. Also permits scanning from TWAIN scanners; raster to raster conversion.

University College London (UK) The Medical Graphics and Imaging Group offers software and digital support for many areas of 3D medical imaging. MGI Workstation imports and manipulates medical file fomats, and can export STL.

Velocity 2 Software Velocity 2 software is used to produce STL files from CAT Scan and MR Scan data. This software has image processing and image reconstruction tools that allow tissue segmentation for production of anatomical models from scan data.

ViewTec AG (Switzerland) RapidView / MedView provide data conversion and preparation for rapid prototyping in addition to visualization and file compression. RapidView was developed for Silicon Graphics Workstations.

Virtual Grid VRMesh Studio is designed for reverse engineering and mesh modeling and includes a set of tools for smoothing, decimating, merging, and marking point clouds. VRMesh Reverse provides reverse engineering workflow to wrap point cloud data into a meshed model. VRMesh Design is used for STL repair and conceptual design. It provides tools to create original models or modify scan data for rapid prototyping.

VirtualGeo s.r.l. (Italy) Provides CloudCUBE 2009 modular software for managing point clouds in AutoCAD which have been acquired by laser scanners. Particularly intended for civil engineering, architecture, archaeology, environmental and land management uses, it can manage more than 500 million points in a single file.

Visible Productions VP-Sculpt provides tools for editing and reshaping polygonal mesh surfaces. Supports import and export in several file formats including DXF, IGES, OBJ, STL. Editing and reshaping operations can be applied to individual vertices or facets, user-defined areas, or in some cases to the entire model. It has utilities for repairing model data, performing measurements and for rapid prototyping preparation. The company also provides an extensive library of antomical models based on the National Library of Medicine's Visible Human data sets.

Visual Technology Services Ltd. (UK) PDF3D® allows three-dimensional files such as STL to be included in standard pdf documents. Views can be rotated and otherwise manipulated within a window in the document.

VizUp Technology (Canada) VizUp is a polygon reduction program that is said to permit reduction of the number of polygons in a complex 3D model while retaining the quality and appearance of the original.

VX Corporation Provides modularized software for mechanical design, mold design, CAM/CNC and reverse engineering. Modules include: VX Mechanical, VX Modeler, VX Designer, VX Mold & Die and VX Machinist. All modules also include file translation capabilities.

Wilcox Associates, Inc. Produces PC-DMIS Reshaper, 3D point cloud and meshing software. It can be used for basic point cloud processing and meshing for 3D data obtained from a variety of platforms or formats. File input types include IGES, STEP, ASCII, RAW, DMIS, DXF. File outputs include STL, STEP, DXF and more.

XnView Comprehensive freeware 2D image converter. Reads 360+ image file formats and writes more than 40 types.

Ztech Solutions Provides Ztech-STL for viewing and repairing STL files. Multiple files can be handled simultaneously and the program is said to offer advanced tools to prepare data for rapid prototyping.
