Worldwide Rapid Prototyping & Reverse Engineering
Service Bureau Database

The Worldwide RP & RE Service Bureau Database is kept up to date on virtually a daily basis. The RP service bureau industry is comprised of more than 525 independent commercial business and numerous additional academic and public entities. These organizations spend their money on a wide range of products and services such as:
  • RP Systems and Software,
  • RP materials,
  • CNC equipment and Hand Tools,
  • Epoxies, Urethanes, Silicones and other molding materials,
  • Part Finishing Services,
  • Vacuum and Investment Casting equipment,
  • CAD stations,
  • CAD and other types of software,
  • Scanners of all kinds.

But finding the decision-makers in the enormous number of small companies that form this sizable market means doing a lot of tedious research. This database will save you a lot of time and tedium, and enables you to precisely and immediately target your marketing message.

Features:

Excel The Database is provided as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet containing:
  • Company name,
  • Physical location (and/or postal address),
  • Telephone and fax numbers,
  • Toll-free telephone numbers,
  • Company email addresses,
  • Key contact individual names and email addresses,
  • Available RP technologies,
  • Reverse Engineering capability.

BUTN Includes more than 830 active rapid prototyping and reverse engineering service bureau locations worldwide.
This includes commercial and educational organizations, government bodies and research institutes. About 90% of the locations are commercial enterprises and about 85% of these organizations are unique business entities. Approximately 40% of the locations are in the US, with the remainder in Europe and the rest of the world.

BUTN Overall general email address coverage is approximately 83%.

BUTN Coverage for the names of one or more key contact individuals is nearly 80%, and approximately 67% of those names have listed email addresses. The names of approximately 900 key decision makers are included.

Simple directions are provided for creating mass emailings or (snail) mail merges from the spreadsheet data. A brief tutorial and many tips on generating and interpreting mass emailings are also included.

The data also includes many additional entries which have been removed from the active SB list, including the reasons for doing so. This portion of the database provides a snapshot of the history of the SB business and now has more than 300 entries, bringing the total number of database entries to nearly 1,200.

A Few Database Highlights and Statistics:

BUTN There are now more than 830 listed locations worldwide where RP and RE services can be obtained, including commercial businesses, academic institutions and government agencies. There were about 640 in 2003.

BUTN There are now more than 525 independent commercial entities that provide rapid prototyping services. The number of independent commercial organizations in the US has grown by less than 6% since 2002, but foreign commercial organizations have increased in number by more than 30% over the period. Service providing locations outside the US represent 60% of the total, and that share of the market continues to increase.

BUTN The dominant technology provided by service bureaus is stereolithography. Nearly 58% of commercial organizations provide that technology, but that's down from 63% in 2003. Selective laser sintering has maintained its penetration at about 53% and is the second most prevalent technology. Commercial service providers outside the US are nearly twice as likely to provide selective laser sintering (SLS) as their US counterparts, and they are more than twice as likely to provide additional reverse engineering services.

BUTN The penetrations of other technologies remains low compared to the two dominant technologies, but significant changes are occurring. Laminated object manufacturing (LOM) and multi-jet modeling are falling out of favor, with LOM reduced to almost 50% of its 2003 penetration level. Fused deposition modeling (FDM) and three dimensional printing (3DP) have been increasing their penetrations marginally, but jetted photopolymer technologies are now available from nearly 7% of commercial providers.

BUTN About 49% of commercial companies provide only a single technology, but nearly 50% can provide 2 or more, and about 20% can provide 3 or more. These figures have remained essentially unchanged over the last 5 years.

BUTN Nearly 15% of commercial rapid prototyping service providers worldwide also provide reverse engineering services. Also included are organizations which provide reverse engineering services, but don't provide RP. There are approximately 35 such organizations, worldwide, including manufacturers that also provide services.
