FDM machine that an owner is willing to donate to education?

Dear Mr. Grenda,

Do you know any information about any ( non repairable/ broken) FDM machine idling in a company or a university, that the owner is willing to donate to us. It would greatly help my research. Still my project funds are insufficient for this, although I could request my university to arrange shipping for me, if available.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
AE

Hi AE:

I don't know of any such machine myself, but that's not to say there isn't one someplace. I think the only good possibility is to post your request to the RPML and see what happens. I would also get in touch with Stratasys directly. One of their field people might know where a machine is. I don't know whom to suggest at Stratasys, however. Start with sales and see if you can make a case that your research will be a help to them down the road.

Another possibility is for you to get some time on a machine at another university or at one of the research institutes in the UK. There's a long list of those on our site and definitely some have FDM. It would be best if you could offer to swap something for the favor in return.

I'm afraid that it's very difficult to get something for nothing, but you may get lucky. And I'm afraid that's what it takes.

Good luck,
Ed
