A lot can be learned about this. The entire field of rapid prototyping more or less
started in the pursuit of this application in the 70's. Many articles cover aspects of it,
and a number of patents and patent applications address the field. Several companies have
been started to do this in one way or another, although I don't believe that anyone has
made a big success of it yet.
Use the detailed tutorial section of our site to locate additional information about
the early days, and do a thorough patent and literature search using those facilities on
the site. While the entire patent database is no longer available free, you can locate a
few patents there from the last couple of years that might be key in taking you to the
rest. Also look at the "Consumer Applications" page.
