I attended ALC from 1959-1966. My family
then moved to the Baruta area, so I transferred to Colegio Americano from
which I graduated in 1968. I attended Northeastern University in Boston
getting a degree in nursing. Worked in Boston for 2 years and
then with a friend moved to San Francisco. I met my husband there, a medical
student. We've been married for 27 years and have 3 daughters. Sarah is
25 and will be attending Univ. Calif. Berkeley law school in the fall.
Joni is 23 and teaches science in Harlem in the Teach for America program.
Rebecca is 18 and will begin Univ. Arizona, Tucson this fall studying musical
theater. No grandkids yet.
My brother Marc Mattox attended ALC from
1959-1963 and then went to prep school in New York. He is married with
3 daughters and a son. Lives in Colorado. Now retired from civil service,
his last job being a parole officer. He loves to work with wood and also
works on home additions now that he is retired.
For so many years I remembered school
and friends in Caracas with no way to keep in touch. This internet communication
is the bomb! It's a link to our pasts. I was born in Venezuela and lived
there for 18 years, but have not been back since 1968 when my family was
transferred back to the US permanently. Anytime I meet new people they
are always amazed at how well I speak English and Spanish, hey no accent!
So truly, we have all been blessed to have experienced another culture
and people and language that only enriches us now. As I read the bios of
others of you, I see that so many of us maintain our links to Venezuela
in the work we do now. I am a nurse, but currently work as a school health
clerk in Tustin, California in a school that is primarily latino. I have
used Spanish extensively in any job I have had. However, my daughters berate
me frequently for not speaking Spanish to them as they grew up. Ay, conchale!
Como se hace eso cuando el papa no habla palabra de espanol!
Saludos a todos. Mary Ellen Mattox
aka Ellen Mattox Angel
Hi! I'm Shirley Clark (now
Merritt). I attended La Castellana my sophomore year from 1964-1965.
I have a sister, Judy, who was a freshman. I believe my brothers, Charles
and John, went to Campo Alegre. After that we moved and I eventually
graduated from Colegio Americano in 1966. After college in Houston,TX,
I married and had a son and daughter. I then decided to go to medical
school and now work as a psychiatrist in Friendswood,TX (near Houston).
I would love to hear from some of you.

Hi, I am Christine
Leeds (now Salaja) and I attended Academy La Castellana from 1966-68,
my freshman and sophomore years. I was very shy and quiet so I don't
expect many people to remember me. If you do, you will be surprised
that I did not become a brain surgeon, in fact I never graduated from College.
I got caught up in the whole back to the land craze of the early 70's by
moving to Vermont with a College Professor...
I now live in rural
central Wisconsin, am married and have an 18 year old son and 4 step-children
(all grown). I eke out a living as a parochial school secretary/librarian.
The pay sucks but I love my job. Big gardens, lots of dogs, cross-country
skiing in the winter and bicycling in the summer.
When I try to describe
my experiences at La Castellana, I'm met with disbelief - particularly
when I describe the biology lab and the typing classes, the wasps that
visited us during lunch and the maze of stairways, patios and halls that
made up our school. But a better education I could not have gotten.
Hi Everyone,
It's been so long but I do remember quite
a few of my classmates from 1962 to 1964. I always wondered if there was
some way to reconnect with friends from Caracas. Thanks for this opportunity.
After graduating from Academy La Castellana I went back to Montreal, Canada
and graduated as a nurse in 1967. I got married in Montreal and I worked
for a few years before I had my kids. My daughter is now 30 years old and
is married!!!! and my son is 26 years old. We all moved to Toronto and
I went back to school and got my Fine Arts Degree and then my teaching
degree. Today that's what I do, 2.5 days a week I work as a nurse
and the other days I teach or I am engaged in some form of creative arts
process. Can you believe I've been married 34 years!!! I remember Bill
Zobel, Martha Monroe, Jim Reese, Peter Falter, Maria Sylvia Rodriguez and
Maria Eugenia, Abe Grossman, Sheila Gulledge, Lisandro Montanaro, Michael
Baird, Pedro Ganzales and Gail Fitzpatrick and practically everyone. I
wonder if anyone remembers me? I would love to hear from any one of my
fellow classmates. My email address is twcworld@rogers.com. I heard
this sad news just today that Maurice Attie died in 1992 when a car hit
him while he was biking. He was an endocrinologist and was living in Philadelphia.
So sorry to learn about Jim Reece. Like I said, it would be wonderful
if I heard from you. Does any one know Martha Monroe's email address
or know where Peter Falter is these days? Thanks for the connection,
Terry (Terry Sherman Cohen in Toronto Canada)
Betsy Foster Ludlow (Junior ’60-’61)
– I attended ALC only through April of my junior year, but fond memories
have remained with me all these years. Jim Reece was a troublemaker
who led me astray in chemistry class, and Mary Virginia Gabler was a good
friend. Through Bobbie’s wonderful site I made contact with Jim,
and hope Mary Virginia will be next. I graduated HS and Junior College
in West Palm Beach, FL then visited my sister in England and ended up marrying
an Englishman and staying there for 17 years. My daughter, Wendy,
and I returned to the states in 1980. I have moved from Sarasota,
FL to Atlanta to Winter Park, FL in the intervening years. My career
has been in the marketing side of the construction services industry.
I still have a smattering of Spanish (enough to impress my daughter) and
really enjoyed the “Spanglish” that is sprinkled throughout the ALC site.
I think a reunion is definitely in order. We are a unique group of
people. Thank you Bobbie for this tremendous effort. My email
address is MEF644@aol.com - kind of a giveway to my age!
MARIE DELEUZE (CLASS 63) . Worked

Got divorced after 13 yrs. Worked for an uncle at an airport
duty free shop, in Martinique, Carribean island . Then lived in FRANCE
for a few years working for another uncle at a 4 star MOTEL in ANNECY.
Met my husband Bob while he was on a buisness trip. We got married
14 yrs ago, between us we have 5 grandchildren. For the moment, I babysit
Olivia 28 mth old all week. My three children are grown ups. One of them

Mountains. My hobby is crochet. That's about it folks, hope to hear from
you.
Hello...Academia La
Castellana and old friends. I've missed you. I attended La
Castellana for -2- years, a very memorable -2- years (1964/65 & 65/66).
Then, my parents sent me to boarding school at MacDuffie's School for Girls
in Springfield, MA. After graduation in 1968, I spent the next 4
years at BRIARCLIFF COLLEGE in New York. I received my BA in
Dev. Psychology. I then continued my education at the University
of Northern Colorado. I graduated with a Masters in Special Education
(Learning Disabilities). (1973) Since then I have been a specialist
working with children who have learning disabilities. I've moved
around like most of you (New York, Florida, Colorado, Utah).. Today, I
live in SLC,Utah.
Last year I received
-2- different teacher of the year awards: one from my union and the other
from my district. Working with the learning disabled has been
very rewarding, but my life would not be complete with my wonderful memories
of life in Caracas. Caracas was my place of birth as my father was
stationed there -4- different times during his life. We returned
during my freshmen year. My parents thought an education in the states
would benefit me and pulled me out after 2 years. Little did they
know how saddened I was to be taken away from a school, friends and country
I adored. Caracas has a special place in my heart and in my life.
I yearned to be reunited with it . Several years ago I returned for
a brief visit. Though much changed, it was still wonderful to see
her again.
Over the years I have
traveled extensively. About 7 years ago I decided to take on a 2nd
career: travel consultant. It's filled a void that I had. Being
an airline brat (Pan American World Airways), I guess travel is in the
blood.
Today, I live in SLC,
Utah with my husband, Douglas Thom. We have no children, but have
been parents to numerous adopted kitties, ducks and geese. I am constantly
rescuing one injured or abandoned animal after another.
I'd love to hear from
other global nomads or TCKs (third culture kids) ...we led different lives...and
though it may have been a struggle for many of us to "readjust" to lives
in the states, I know we wouldn't give up our "roots" in Caracas for ANYTHING....
With fond memories
and affection..... Bonney Brown (Thom)

To all those I attended school with, thanks
for your friendship!
This is Tim Orf, graduated in 1970
and moved back to Conn, where I attended U of Bridgeport and some area
community colleges. While working and living in NJ, met my 'significant
other'. We were married in 1976, and relocated to Orlando, FL., where we
still live! We have 3 kids (and one grandchild!!), all of whom live in
the Orlando area. My brother Dave (ALC '68) lives in Ashland,Oregon and
we often reminisce about our ALC friends and the amazing times!
Since Orlando is such a popular vacation spot, I just know a lot of you
alums must visit at some time or another! Feel free to contact me(we're
in the book) or email at TORF15@AOL>COM........
I am Rosalinda Rivera, now
R.R. Collins. I attended La Castellana from 1967 - 1970.
Unfortunately, I did not graduate from La Castellana because our family
(military) was transfered at the end of my junior year to Junction City,
Kansas. What a waste of a year. From there, we
moved to Florida, and I have been here since 1971. I graduated
from the University of South Florida in Tampa in Foreign Language Education
and began teaching junior high. After seven years, I moved to a high
school. That was a ten year venture. Now, I am
in my sixth year of teaching at Polk Community College, still in foreign
languages and education courses. I work day and night, but I love
my work. I am married to Duane (who is also in education.) We have
two children, Lauren, (almost 18) who is graduating in a few months
('00) and Bronson (10) who loves to create things. I live in Lakeland,
between Orlando and Tampa. My email is rriveracollins@juno.com.
What a great web page! I think I have looked everything over twice -- pouring over the photos and jotting down email addresses. Can't wait to contact Claudia Zobel and Mrs. Jennings among others. My name is Maureen Malloy de Clausen. I graduated in 1966. My brother, Neil, also went to ALC, but was sent on to prep school in the States so I don't know if any of you would remember him. He lives in Venezuela. I live with my husband in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Thanks for a labor of love.
I am Richard Campbell. I left Caracas
June 1969. I moved to San Francisco with my family and graduated from High
School in 1971 there. After high school I attended Georgia Tech at its
Marrietta campus for a short time and then joined the San Francisco Sheriffs
dept. After working there for about 8 years I moved to Savannah Ga. where
I went to work for an export warehouse that my family has an interest in.
I presently am president of Coastland Warehouse Co and live in Rincon,
Ga. I have a son Jeffery Richard and a daughter Tara Mignon aged
10 and 19 respectively. I am still married to my wife of 24 years,
Virginia and would dearly love to hear from any of my old friends.

I am Anita Muller. (My professional
name is Anita Santiago.) I graduated in1968 and went to New York, first
to Adelphi University where I got a B.A. in Anthropology, and then to State
University of New York in Stony Brook, where I got an M.A. in Spanish Language
and Literature. Came to Venezuela to do research for my Ph.D. and worked
for Canal 8 and Radio Caracas Television writing soaps in the more literate
era of "Estefania" and other historical programs, which is somewhat of
a saving grace for this activity. Worked in some advertising agencies in
Caracas first as a producer and then as a creative director. Married
Luis Santiago in 1977 and moved to Los Angeles, California, where our son
David and our daughter Laura were born. David is now 18 and going to UC
Santa Barbara, a computer genius. Laura is 16 and studying photography,
sculpture and ceramics. Both beautiful kids and the light of my eye. (Spoken
like a true mama.) Luis and I divorced in 1988 and I married my husband
Peter Brown, who is in advertising (creative director and writer.) He is
a wonderful man. I started an advertising agency in 1987 and have been
running it since then, specializing in the U.S. Hispanic market. The agency
has won many creative awards and it has been a lot of fun. I recently completed
an M.A. in clinical psychology. Funny, my senior prophesy predicted this.
I am a published writer of fiction. I miss Caracas and I miss ALC, and
connecting to this site has been a life-changing experience for me. Those
were truly special times. Lots has happened and I would love to hear from
everybody. I miss you!
!Hola todos! I'm Janice (Dasen)
Alford, who along with my sister Denise, attended ALC - I was there
in 69 and 70 (10th & 11th grades). My sister graduated ALC in

your senior year! But I survived and spent 3 years in the US Army
(Women are Veterans, too) where I met my husband Archie. Just celebrted
25 years of marriage. We have 2 daughters, Taryn 24 years old, and
Tessa, 13 years old. I went on to get my Bachelors and Masters in
Elementary Education and taught school for 18 years, then went on to get
my Educational Specialist degree in TESOL and have been an Ed. Spec. with
the ESOL Department of Broward County Schools for the past 3 years (Fort
Lauderdale, FL.) My husband is a Math teacher in Coral Springs. I
live in Plantation. Anyone near or far, get in touch at Alfie4@gateway.net

Bobbie Cruz, class of 61 and true
to the "Senior Prophecy" I became an Executive Secretary. After graduation
I worked in Caracas and in 1963 moved to my birth place, New York City
and worked with ABC as a secretary in the Art Department and also at Columbia
Records. I continued working both in Caracas and NYC until 1968 at
which time I returned to Venezuela and married a Venezuelan. During
this period I gave birth to two sons, Alejandro and Andres. Alex
(30) in Caracas working hard at his own internet company (Latinlook.com)
and Andy (29) is doing a Master’s in Marine Policy and Affairs at the University
of Miami.
During my years in
Venezuela, I was privileged to have traveled extensively throughout this
most beautiful country, and if you haven’t been on any of the adventure
tours there, I highly recommend it before Madman Chavez does something
stupid.
Besides my secretarial
work, I became a dance and aerobic instructor and owned and operated my
own studio in Caracas. I divorced in 1980 and have not remarried.
In 1995, frustrated with life in the tropics, I moved back to good ole
USA and studied Massage Therapy. Hungry for more education I enrolled
in Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida and graduated in May 2000 with
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science.
Just recently I began
volunteer work at the Touch Research Institutes in Miami... fascinating!
I’m still living in Boca, I love to travel and I visit Venezuela
two or three times a year. I enjoy getting together with friends,
new and old, and I’m always exploring the Internet for new and exciting
things to learn. If you’re in South Florida, look me up.

Martha Monroe, class of '64. Hi!
I was surprised and pleased to receive the information on the ALC
newsletter and website. I am living in Denver CO and have been here for
the last 12 years. I went back to school and graduated from CU-Denver
in 1990, with a degree in Communications and Spanish. I am working
as the Assistant Program Director and Director of Community Relations for
Home Care Management, a company that manages the care for elderly and disabled
persons.
I have two grown children,
Stuart (29) and Alexandra (24) who live in the US. Stuart and his
wife are here in Denver. He is designs interactive web pages.
Alix is in New York City. She is an associate editor for the Toy
Magazine.
I spent Thanksgiving
at my brother Tom’s (class of '66) house in Portland, OR. While
I was there, I made contact with Gail Fitzpatrick. I had not seen
or heard from her since our graduation in 1964. I have asked
for her e-mail address but don’t have it yet. My sister in law, or ex sister-in-law
Claudia Zobel de Diego spent part of last week (Jan.99) here looking
at the University of Denver for her second son Peter.
Gary "El Ruletero" Solana, class
of ’62. Along with Alvaro Mantilla also of Class of '62, spent 4
years in the Air Force as a computer operator. After the Air Force, graduated
from American University in Washington DC with a degree in Political Science.
(It seemed like a good idea at the time.) Various careers in Computers
have followed but he has never forgotten the power of the BPV friendships
he formed in La Castellana. Gary has a little girl 3 years old, (They are
so great when they’re young.) Jennifer Jaclyn ( J J for short.) who is
as deeply feeling and impetuously intelligent as her father. Currently
living in San Diego after a serious automobile accident. He is reconstructing
his life with the loving assistance of his family, especially his Dad and
cousins Chris, Manny, la Loca Lisa and their father, Manny Sr.. Hearing
about the current status of my dear, and precious friends from those "Glory
Days", has uplifted my spirits tremendously. "The fundamental things apply,
as time goes by". Those were the "best of times, and through this vehicle
I again return to the "best of times".
Un fuerte abrazo for all my friends. To
the BPV’s … keep the faith.

Jim Reece (Junior '60-'61).
After leaving Caracas in 1961 I finished high school in Dallas and got
an accounting degree at UT Austin. I worked for Ernst and Young and then
in my own practice. I married a beautiful, incredible, and heroic
girl named Barbara Pellizzi .. unfortunately, she had kidney disease
and despite having a successful (for the time) transplant died in 1985.
I remarried but am now divorced. Two years ago I started a small computer
company which has now become a web-site hosting company and small ISP.
It may even make a profit some day. For those of you who may remember me
as a cut-up, please hold on to something -- I may have actually grown up
by now! ........ Naaawwww Just kidding. Finding this
site is way cool.. I loved the years I spent in Caracas and to this day
that time exerts a tremendous infuence on me. Adjustment was difficult
when I first returned to the US and I wonder how it was for some of you.
You can reach me at jimtex@aol.com or jr@bandera.com. IM me if you have
instant messenger.. I would love talking to old classmates.
Thank you, Bobbie .. this project was
one great idea and I thank you for it. Hugs to all..
(Note from Bobbie: Unfortunately Jim has left us,
please see "Newsletter" and special page for him)
