DOWN THE EASTERN SEABOARD

Phil found his childhood home in Westport, CT filled with a young family--the Lakes. Kim, Alexandra & Christopher. Missing are dad, Al, and brother Alexander. They were kind enough to let us interrupt their day, so that we could revisit days gone by.
The house looks very similar to when Phil lived here in 1948. The house was built in the mid 1800's and is on the historic register. The caretakers house where Liza & Harold lived has been turned into quarters for the family's Swedish au pair.
Wash. DC and the Jefferson Memorial. Seeing us in front of it really shows how enormous the statue is.
Washington Monument in the background with Eric, Kristen and Megan. The weather got nasty for a little while, then cleared up and was beautiful.
Changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington. A very interesting cemetary for all the famous people and very old Civil War graves. They are running out of room, and expect it to be full by 2015-2025. About 20 burials a day happen here, 5 days a week.
Sorry for the quality of these pics, but no flash allowed. This is the live airing of The View - one of our favorite shows. Barbara Walters looks great!!
When they cut to a commercial, all hell breaks loose on the set, changing things for the next section. Make up and hair attendants come out, along with property people moving the sets around. Fascinating.
Another one of our favorites. Live with Regis. His co-host was from All My Children (can't remember her name!). Regis comes across very relaxed.
This set is very relaxed during commercials -- a very different feeling. Regis comes out and chats with the audience. Gelman is always giving Regis instructions about what comes next.
Times Square taken from the NASDAQ Marketsite. What a place that city is!! We had a great time exploring everything.
Back side of the Statue of Liberty - loved the way the clouds looked around her.
This is our mornings!! Coffee, Newspaper, and a hotel room--Regis and The View! Here, we are in a Novatel (European chain) in Princeton, NJ. Very nice for $78 + tax! You could really feel the European influence in the service and decor.
Downtown Philly -- The old and the new blending together with City Hall in the background. Flags of all the nations line Benjamin Franklin Parkway
Closer view of this beautiful spire with William Penn on top. For years there was an unwritten, gentlemen's agreement that no building would be built taller than William Penn.
The real Liberty Bell - the crack is really big, and being held together with bolts. The bell is very delicate and hasn't been rung since the 1800's. It is being moved to an enclosed pavillion and you will no longer be able to touch it.
This is the actual room and the original chair that Geo. Washington sat in as he presided over the Continental Congress as they developed our constitution. It was very inspiring.
From Philly to the Shore! These are both at the beach town of Wildwood -- very touristy in the summer, but totally shut down and deserted now. Had a hard time finding anyplace open for a bowl of soup for lunch! I've never seen an amusement park built right on the sand -- it was kind of neat!
"Under the Boardwalk" --Better Midler's song just jumped out at me. It really is a boardwalk in Atlantic City. The casinos are huge and glitzy, but the shore really adds a dimension that Las Vegas can't match.
Phil pointing out the fine points of the Battle of Gettysburg. This is a hauntingly interesting place. You can almost see the troops out there and you can definitely follow the whole thing with the great audio tape available.
We stumbled into the 200th Birthday Party for The White House. The Marine Corps Band (wonderful) is in the background, as "Calvin Coolidge" talks about his experiences in the White House.
After the program, Phil cornered "Thomas Jefferson" and "John Adams" for a quick pic. They had a fun piece about turning the White House over to the next President. It sounded much like what is going on today!!
A haunting place -- Ford's Theatre, the box where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Even though the theatre is now used for plays again, no one ever sits in that box.
George Washington's home, Mt. Vernon. This view from the Potomac side. An interesting place to learn about the role of slaves during that time on large (8,000 acre) plantations. George was a very innovative farmer for the time.
A person could spend days in the various Smithsonian Museums. We spent a very cold afternoon here at the Air and Space, The Natural History, and the American History buildings.
In Alexandria is this huge memorial to the Masonic Lodges. Specifically honoring George Washington who was Grand Master of the Alexandria Lodge while he was President. It is very impressive and has some fun exhibits in the basement.
Isn't this golf course pretty? It is The Lansdowne Resort where we spent Thanksgiving. They use szoya (?) grass on their fairways which turns golden when it gets below 55 outside. It is really quite striking looking, and the ball rolls and rolls -- my favorite!
