Exploring the barrier islands of Captiva & Sanibel from sea level is a unique adventure for the entire family. Join us on our bayside location on Pine Island Sound Aquatic Preserve on Captiva Island. We have direct access to this pristine estuary, rich in Florida habitat. The scenic, shallow bay waters provide a beautiful backdrop for both novice and experienced paddlers: Bays, beaches, bayous and mangrove trails! So much to explore! Choose a back bay ecology tour with our guides through historic Buck Key Isand &/or have an adventure paddling on your own to the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge.

RENTAL INFORMATION


KAYAKS
Our kayak fleet is the most complete fleet in the area. There are many styles to choose from including traditional touring sea kayaks, recreational, sit-on-tops and the Hobie Mirage peddle/paddle kayaks. All available as single person kayaks and tandem (2 person) kayaks. We have boats for every need, including kayaks for fishing and accessories for kids! Kayaks for the beach and the bay! You can request a certain kayak or let us help select one to meet your needs in comfort and performance. Our kayaks have rudders and are fully outfitted. Our nickname -“The Pampered Paddler”!

KAYAK RENTAL DESTINATIONS FROM OUR LOCATION:

Buck Key Trail Loop generally takes 1 ½ hrs at moderate pace.
Buck Key Island, circumnavigating the whole island generally takes 2 1/2 hrs+.
Chadwicks Bayou Paddle Adventure, 1 to 2hrs round trip, depending on how much you want to explore.
Blind Pass & the Beach Excursion, 2 1/2 hrs to 4+hrs round trip. Great adventure to pack a picnic or go to lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Wulfert Keys and the refuge on Sanibel, 4-6+ hrs round trip.
Sit-On Top Kayaks for the Beach- min. charge ½ day rental.

EXTENDED RENTALS, MULTIPLE DAY RENTALS, TAKE AWAY RENTALS:

We offer extended multiple day rentals for those who want a kayak vacation or have guests & need more kayaks. For a three day rental minimum we provide free kayak delivery & pick up on Sanibel and Captiva. Want to explore other areas? For take away rentals we provide portable kayak racks for your rental car.


SAILING

We offer the Windrider Trimarans. These sailboats are perfectly designed for our shallow bay waters. They are stable, secure yet swift. We have boats for the novice to the seasoned sailor!
The Windrider 10 is a solo sailing Tri hull that can handle our low tides and the lightest of breezes. With its astounding stability and simple one-line sail control, lets virtually everyone hop in and go. Perfect for kids and adults. The WR10 is one of the most responsive little sailing vessels

The Windrider 16 isn’t a typical sailboat: no other multi or mono hull can match its ability to sail quickly, in a wide range of conditions, virtually year around. The WR16 shatters many of the conventions of a small sailing boat. Described to receive the maximum amount of performance with the least amount of rigging! Simplicity at its best.! With three hulls and a central, forward facing cockpit, it doesn’t look like any other sailboat. Ride in comfort. A cat rig main sail and optional foot operated rudder makes it easier to control. Slender wave piercing hulls give it exhilarating performance. Designed to seat 1 to 3 adults comfortably or a couple of adults and kids. A great family boat, heeling is minimal and capsizing almost impossible! There is no hiking out or darting back and forth across the deck. The boom height allows for safe effortless jibes. A leisure cruiser in a small package!
The Windrider Trimaran series takes the focus away from the boat and puts it on the experience of sailing.


KAYAK TOUR INFORMATION

We are a full service kayak rental business and have been providing kayak tours in this area since the mid 1980’s. Our tours are designed to share our knowledge about the area, educating participants about the natural and cultural history of the mangrove fringed coastline. We offer a variety of kayak styles to fit your needs. Our tours are recommended for all ages and skill levels, no kayak experience is necessary for these excursions, just a sense of adventure and a willing spirit!
We prefer to use tandem kayaks for the tours. Instructions will be provided.

Buck Key Trail Tour: 2hrs
Only a short distance off Captiva and an easy paddle across Roosevelt Channel you”ll find the unspoiled island of Buck Key, a pristine mangrove island that is of environmental, historical and archaeological significance. After a brief introduction, we will depart from our waterfront location at the mouth of Roosevelt Channel. At a leisurely pace we will glide over the seagrasses while discussing the ecology of this backbay estuary and the fascinating history that surrounds this area. Then onward to the peaceful splendor of Hurricane Harbor. From there we will enter into the island of Buck Key. Gliding quietly beneath a canopy of mangroves, a “tunnel of tranquility” which takes us to the other side of the island and exisits out into the bay waters of Pine Island Aquatic Preserve. A timeless experience! This scenic loop takes approximately two hours. The estuary is abundant with a variety of birds and sightings of manatee, dolphin & otters are frequent. Be sure to bring camera, binoculars and a sense of adventure!!!

EVENING GUIDED KAYAK TOUR

Chadwicks Bayou Tour: 2hrs
Join us on this evening nature tour designed for the entire family. With your guide, discover the “NIGHT LIFE” of the mangrove shoreline and seagrass meadows: seahorses, seastars, bioluminescence and so much more! Tours schedualed near a Full Moon might experience the sun setting over the tranquil waters of Chadwicks Bayou as the moon rises in the eastern sky across the bay! Constellation observation at its finest on a New Moon evening! While paddling back in the moonlight or under a sky of twinkling stars, we might be able to quietly observe the activities of the birds, manatees, dolphins and otters. An adventure not to be missed!
Evening tours depart an hour before sunset and return by starlight an hour after sunset. Beginners are welcomed!


RENTAL & TOUR RATES

The prices include all the accessories, safety equipment and instructions. necessary for your adventure. Kayak/sailing rentals are by the hour with a minimum of 1 hour. After the 1st hour we prorate every 15 min. until you reach the 1/2 day rate, (note- after 2 1/2 hrs you are automatically on the 1/2 day rate.) This way you can do as little or much paddling/sailing as weather or your energy will allow!

DIRECTIONS FROM THE FT. MYERS AIRPORT TO CAPTIVA KAYAK CO. & WILDSIDE ADVENTURES:
Go West on Daniels Parkway to the Ben Pratt-6 Miles Cypress intersection.
Maneuver to be in the left turning lane.
At the stop light turn Left onto 6 Miles Cypress.
At the next major stop light intersection you will cross over U.S. 41, (6 Mile Cypress changes its name to Gladiolus.)
Continue to Summerlin Rd. (the next major stop light intersection,) maneuver to be in Left turning lane.
Turn Left onto Summerlin Road, this will take you to the toll bridge to Sanibel.

When you come over the Sanibel Causeway ($3.00 toll) turn Right at the first stop sign onto Periwinkle Way.
Follow Periwinkle to the 4-way stop, about 3 miles.
Turn Right on to Tarpon Bay Road. Follow to the next 4-way stop.
Turn Left onto Sanibel-Captiva (San-Cap) Road.
Follow San-Cap for 7 miles to Blind Pass Bridge which connects Sanibel to Captiva. Cross over.

You are now on Captiva Island.
Follow this road to the 4-way stop, approximately 3 miles after BP bridge. This is the “Village” of Captiva.
Turn RIGHT on to Andy Rosse Lane. This road is short, turn RIGHT at the bend into McCarthy’s Marina parking lot.
We are on the water.
Park in front of the small building (beach shack) closest to the water. You have arrived!!!!

PLEASE DO NOT LOOK OUR SIGN ON THE MAIN ROAD. WE DO NOT HAVE ONE!
DO NOT LOOK FOR 11401 ANDY ROSSE LANE –IT IS NOT POSTED!!
The stop sign at Andy Rosse is all that you need to look for.
Remember take a RIGHT. We are on the bay! Not the Gulf!
