Fostering for CMFRH, Inc.

The concept of fostering a mastiff, mastiff mix, or other big dog is pretty easy to grasp: by giving some time and effort, you help out a dog that needs care, love, and a forever home.

The balance is off: there are more dogs in need than we can possibly help. There are more families ready to adopt than there are dogs we can offer.

We can help more dogs if we have more foster homes.

We can also support efforts to promote the spaying/neutering of pets, the humane and compassionate treatment of animals, the elimination of commercial high-volume dog breeding facilities, and the notion that owning a dog is a lifetime commitment.

Among the many ways a family or individiual can volunteer is by fostering a dog in need under our rescue program.

Do you have experience with mastiffs or other large breeds? Would you like to see what it is like to let a piece of your heart be given to a special dog that needs you to help them? How about having your foster dog give you a look and sigh of appreciation? How about seeing them become queen or king of their forever home - when once they might have been found abandoned running stray in the street?

This beautiful mastiff just "showed up" one cold day at a farm and took refuge in the barn. She was very worried and disoriented and showed that she wanted to be helped.

This is the wonderful life this beautiful mastiff queen lives now.

The foster home is an important and essential part in making rescues like this happen. We assess your setting and make ourselves aware of the type of dog you are able to welcome into your home. Veterinary needs, nutrition needs, care needs, and behavioral needs are the 4 main components of fostering. We foot the bill for basic veterinary needs, and basic training (if needed). Home selection becomes the final component. The foster home is involved in that because you are the one who knows your foster dog the best.

It starts by you doing the volunteer application. Then we go from there.......thanks for reading this far!!!!!
