| 8/30: Leo has made a lot of progress in his foster home. We have gotten him an in-home trainer who has visited
him once so far - great positive results so far! Leo learned how to perform a sit perfectly and is learning that
"clicks" are associated with good and desired behaviors. He is getting work on doing "down"
as well. After his first session, he was pretty whooped and had to take a long napper :) - more mentally strenuous
than physical. He was very responsive and the trainer has given his foster mom some very valuable tips on how to
make progress the positive way. He will see the trainer again for more fun. We want to share these experiences
with Leo's new adopters so they can continue with his training to make even more progress. Leo is making wonderful
progress in the house now. He has found a favorite cool spot to lay where an air conditioner is nearby. He loves
the childrenin his foster home and will do ANYTHING for the 8 year old girl, as he adores her. Leo loves to play
with toys and take walks. Many people stop to ask about Leo on his walk and his foster mom gets to tell all about
him. Leo is also now neutered and recovered from that. He has met a fellow male mastiff and was submissive to him.
Leo also has gained almost 50 pounds and is looking SUPER. Check out his new pictures. Leo's Initial Biography: Leo is a soon-to-be 2 yr old male neutered brindle English mastiff. He was discovered living in the backyard of a home where he had been his entire life. Leo had never been inside of a house, gone for a ride in a car, or even gone for a walk. Leo’s foster mom convinced the owners he would have a better life if he were allowed to be a part of Canisolida Mastiff Rescue. Leo has been vetted, is now up to date on all of his shots, been wormed and on flea preventative. Unfortunately Leo did test positive for heart worms but is undergoing treatment and should be well on his way to recovery. Leo is malnourished only weighing 100 lbs, but has a healthy appetite and seems to be gaining weight right before his foster mom’s eyes. Leo is great with older kids and especially loves the 8 yr old little girl in his foster home. He is a little leery of the 4 year old that also lives with him. She moves too fast and always wants to lay on him, which worries him. Leo is great with other dogs, good with cats, and fabulous in a car. He will just climb right in a car and sit down ready for his ride. He tolerates a bath. Like most dogs that have never lived the good life, Leo will take a patient owner that is willing to teach Leo what is expected of him. We strongly suggest you have experience with positive training methods and be willing to work with him toward achieving leash manners and house manners - Leo is eager and willing to learn so you will have an attentive pupil if you offer high-value treats in the process! He wants to please, seems very smart and loves all the new attention he is getting; he is just unsure what is expected of him. A new dad and mom to guide him into being a loved companion is all that we hope for this sweet eager young mastiff. Leo has been adopted and is doing wonderful in his new home! |
