...being some chronicles relating to what I do for money in this world...
"other people wouldn't like to hear you
if you said
that these are the best days
of our lives
other people turn around and laugh at you
if you said
that these are the best days
of our lives
other people break into a cold sweat"

juggling interviews today, I cancelled two... after three mediocre possibilities yesterday, I decided to pass on two of the same kind today... I just don't have the savings cushion and the reliable transportation needed for a sales commission type job that requires driving my own vehicle as part of the job... even though those would offer more autonomy, which I'd like, I'm less prepared for them than I am for a sit down office job or for a show up at the worksite labor, supervision, or management job... stay positive, stay open, stay focused... so today I'm going to check out a dispatcher job which sounds like it is mostly telephone order taking and routing product where it needs to go...
we shall see...
a call from a recruiter about a route delivery job came in... clean shaven and short hair and some sales experience are prerequisites because they deliver on Disney property... its the sales experience part I'm wondering about... there's a big difference between delivering already sold product and driving around trying to sell product and a delivery route driver does not sound like a sales position, but then so many sales jobs seem to be presented in disguise... still, I sent off my resume as requested and the recruiter will send it to the owner and we shall see what shall be... recruiters don't tell enough about a position for me to know if I'd actually be interested... positive, open, focused...
worklife can be a very boring read, huh?... but still...
IT'S THE GREAT JOB FOR THE NEW MILLENIUM HUNT!
WANNA HELP? check out and pass around my RESUME
and you are very welcome and encouraged to offer
JOB LEAD HELP or even... FRIENDSHIP J
the dispatcher job sounds like it might keep me from getting boed for a week or few... it's got built in overtime to make the money mre attractive so it moved up to the top position of hopefuls for the moment... the guy doing the hiring was out on an emergency so his assistant did the interview which consisted of a sales pitch for the company and not much else... those are the easiest kind of interviews for me as there's no challenge, just slip some brief supportive statements in when he takes a breath and cheer him on... he said he was impressed with the way I handled myself... we shall see if the guy who does the hiring will be if I get called back for a second interview...
unfortunately, this drags the job search into yet another week because the money is too good to not wait and see (about 10K a year more than the evening shift supervisor position with potential for more overtime now and then)... the drawback will be long days starting at 6AM (which means waking at least 5AM) and not getting home until 6PM... fitting in daily running and exercise must be the first challenge as the job doesn't sound all that physical (from the preliminary sales pitch, it sounds like a combination of dispatcher, order taker, sales rep, CSR, and account exec)... the company appear sound, annual evaluations tied to raises, full benefits (though I don't have a breakdown), one week vacation the first year, 2 weeks after that gradually increasing to 6 weeks after 20 years (like I think that far ahead... who am I, Fagan?) J
the resume obviously need serious revising for target markets as I'm not getting nearly as many bites as I should, all things considered... mostly agencies... the state positions might not be calling yet, but then again, I've been out of the workforce for so long that's a big challenge to overcome on paper... add to that the tendency for companies in this area o hire from within and rely on referrals... and the fact that I know few people and nobody with referral connections... and there's little wonder why I'm getting few bites on the unsolicited resumes I'm sending out... positive, open, focused...
so I've got to keep digging and finding telephone numbers and making the calls to get my foot in the door myself like I did with this dispatcher job... hopefully next week they'll call and offer and unless something better pops up before then, I'll consider the job search put on hold for a while...
