WORKLIFE PAGES
...being some chronicles relating to what I do for money in this world...

"There's room at the top they are telling you still
but first you must learn how to smile as you kill
if you want to be like the folks on the hill
a working class hero is something to be
if you want to be a hero well just follow me"

~ John Lennon ~

worklife filled up the entire week as I worked six days and stayed late all six days... that's where I've been in case you're local and wondered why I haven't been home when you called ... or in case you've been looking for updates here... by now I should have last weeks journals uploaded J

well last well didn't go as well as I'd have liked... I'm not at the bottom and there are some who've been there a lot longer than I have producing less than I am... but that doesn't satisfy me (even though it justifies the reasoning that it's not just my inexperience or lack of skills at fault)... many of the people told me they started out real slow, which is reassuring...

I also had four different managers with four different styles partnering with me on the four days I worked, which made for a lot of inconsistencies in our approach... management also changed the scripts we use for describing the company and job (in fact the new script isn't due out until next week... training was Thursday and it sounds very good)...

my concern is they are still selling the job more than interviewing and that's going to mean people literally buy into a job they really aren't prepared to and/nor have the skills to do and that will hurt the company in the long run... when I mentioned that to management their answer was typical sales thinking, that anyone who isn't enthused about doing the job and either wants to cancel their deposit or doesn't do well can be blamed on the interviewers not motivating them enough... I say if you need to sell someone too much on taking a job, they aren't right for the job...

that's heavy push of sales reasoning from the top is what has me wondering if it's not basically a scam in the long run... though if it is, there are a whole lot of big names in business and modelling being taken for a ride too... the idea is definitely sound...

hopefully I'll be trusted more as time passes and they'll let me be a part of the mamagement team... some of the managers say the same thing I do, that we are interviewing and not selling... the set up is still very much sales though... that inconsitency has me wondering (and probably has others with the experience and reasoning skills wondering as well and that's not good because it's distracting and that's not good because a loarge part of this job is staying focused)... hopefully the new week and new script will help clarify some of the descrepancies for all of us J
