...being some chronicles relating to what I do for money in this world...
"it's just a fantasy
it's not the real thing
it's just a fantasy
it's not the real thing
but sometimes a fantasy
is all you need
~ Billy Joel ~
the first week of work is over... interesting... but too much waiting around so far since the first two days were just training (watching others) and the last two days (just a four day week this week, next week is a six day week) were not typical since the place is overcrowded and I had way more distractions than I'd have liked for a first two days on the phones... I do telephone interviews for emodel.com... phone interviews are a little different than in person interviews, but I've interviewed enough people to be able to get a hang of it... now it's just a matter of boning up on the specific criteria for the positions...
the hours are pretty good... a fourteen day schedule, 4 days on, three off, six on, one off... and the people seem friendly (and some are beautiful to look at, which makes time pass more pleasantly and will inspire some more creativity if I let it... hope nobody minds... if I keep it to myself, I don't have to be distracted by thoughts of how others might interpret it (which is wastig time and energ on worthless speculation anyway, since I do not read minds... really, I don't read minds... wink nudge nod), so I can let the inspirations flow freely...
day one I watched others do the job that I will do
day two some more of the same
paying the dues
learning to play the game
day three I tried it for the first time
learning what I can do
day four I learned about the challenges
and how to stumble on through
and all in all it was a fair start on the job
paying the dues
learning something new
the best thing about the job so far is the energy some have and the sensuality a few of the people radiate... but that's not exactly worklife, technically J
as for the worklife itself... the office is managed similar to a sales force office in that there are percentages kept and teams and incentives for hiring (or enrollments as they call it... it's partly sales in a sense as the new hires are asked for a deposit to demonstrate their committment and confidence that they can do the job... the deposit is refunded if they do)... since the job I hire for is acting as an independant agent or scout for emodel.com and there's no direct supervision, the glamor of the industry attracts all kinds of people who might not take it seriously (like guys who just want emodel.com business cards to pick up girls)... the reimburable deposit is one tangilble way of separating the posers from those who are genuinely interested in being a successful model scout...
though some don't like being asked to send money in order to be hired (and it seems like a similar practice as many MLM programs, though not for the same reasons in this case), I think it's a good idea since without the reimbursable investment, every single Tom, lonely Dick, and horny Harry would probably want the prestige and social presence the job offers... I mean, think about it... if you were a single guy (or girl even) trying to meet someone out there tonight, wouldn't you like a professional photo business card with your name on it that says you represent the largest model scouting company in the world?
so anyway, that's the job... sorting through the thousands of applications the company receives each day and choosing the people who'd best (professionalism, honesty, integrity, energy, discerning fashion sense, motivation, independence, and drive to succeed, for starters) represent the company in the field...
a challenge to do over the telephone... but the company is expanding worldwide and it's not feasable to do in person interviews in every city...
since they hired six new people this week, they rearranged the teams and one of my teammates is definitely a beautiful distraction (not to mention some of the others in the office... of course I'll keep it professional and catch the drool before it hits the ground... giggle... wait, are giggles professional?)... hopefully my teammates have a flexible sense of humor... the beauty and sensuality shall inspire me in the written gardens even if none of the people know...
it's a far cry from Buffalo J
so I think I'll let the new inspirations from work spin a fantasy or few J
(and I'll go on trying to convince myself that a fantasy is still all that I need)
and that's worklife for this week... I'm not sure if I'll come here weekly as I did in the previous incarnation of worklife or if I'll babble on whenever the muses inspire me (and as I've said, there are some serious potential muses at work this time around)... maybe worklife will even start seeing some rhymes, but probably the personal creative inspirations and fantasies will slide into other areas of these written gardens... now if the job itself only shows it can pay me a reasonable wage, I'll hang around a while and see what develops J
so what's new in your workife?
