IMAGINARY CHARACTERS
. . . the only limits are those you choose to create in your mind . . .
The Heart Never Lies
she gave birth east of Omaha
in the back seat of a fancy car
and her sugar daddy never knew
and the baby had no clue
it tore her up to turn away
confused by the facts of life
she told herself it's for the best
but no matter how well the mind denies
the heart never lies
she was just fifteen with nowhere to go
she left the baby at the local fancy picture show
when the lights came up the baby cried
the usher about died
the papers made it a big scene
how the mother was so cruel, so mean
the hospital said the kid is fine
the couples got in line
the adoption didn't take too long
the kid was growing soft and strong
a good girl in a fine family
they named her Victory
a few years later the sugar dad
got tired of the play he had
at eighteen tossed out on her own
she was feeling so alone
she looked for work but had no skills
so she turned to tricks to pay the bills
but somewhere lost inside her mind
was a little girl she'd never find
the little girl grew up to be
the pride of her new family
the scholarships set her career
the road to success was clear
everyone said she was beautiful
something sad about the eyes
behind them she hid herone wish
to feel her mothers arms and know
the heart never lies
looking beaten by a life
her mother only knew more strife
the street had aged her all too fast
she knew life did not last
the ambulance pulled up the her curb
took her to the paupers reserve
laying in a hospital bed
a little girl lost in her head
the little girl was all grown up now
a doctor of great renown
famous for generosity
two days a week she worked for free
at the paupers reserve nursing home
where she cared for people left alone
to die and end miserable lives
with dark and empty eyes
and sitting at the bedside listening
she heard the old woman, eyes glistening
tell of the baby she left long ago
at the local fancy picture show
the two woman sat in silence
it seems both hearts had stopped
tears cleared up the confusion
the other shoe had dropped
the old woman tried to explain
she only wanted the best
the grown up little girl said, "shhhh"
and held her to her breast
forgiveness comes in many ways
life can be cruel and kind
she died there in the arms of
the little girl she'd never find
we can judge or we can learn
we can curse or we can cry
but the little girl had her wish come true
and the you know if you are wise
the heart never lies
the last words the old woman heard
were like a gift from God
she'd made mistakes but in the end
no one deserves a life that hard
she held on to her doctor's arm
as tears fell from her eyes
and heard these words: "I love you mom"
she let her spirit rise
and a body dies
but the heart never lies
