Destiny
I was somewhere east of Texas
in a mobile tin can home
hands longing for a human touch
on a steering wheel too long
she was just a fading memory
one who deserved better than me
but for some reason beyond me
I just could not let go
holding on tight to the steering wheel
the lonely old road knows how I feel
with a million tires passing each day
and not one of them stays
no wonder the road man strays
I had everything my heart desired
but one day my heart just got fired
as if it was not up to the job
what can I say, I wasn't I guess
inside I was a mess
she was just a fading memory
with jewels in her eyes and destiny
but for some reason beyond me
she said she'd marry be
ten years later finally
the stars had all gone out
and with me gone most of the time
you know what that's about
her new man is good to the kids
best schools and fancy things
a stable life in opera town
pulling all the right strings
she was just a fading memory
but staring at the road too long
even a strong mess of a man
learns he's just not that strong
I was somewhere east of Texas
in a mobile tin can home
hands longing for a human touch
I've known only mine too long
holding on tight to the steering wheel
the lonely old road knows how I feel
with a million tires passing each day
and not one of them stays
not even the strays
