THERE'S ALWAYS HOPE...
(I HOPE...)

all she's ever known is pain...
she needs sunshine to shine through the rain...
now I am trying to explain
if I can't try again
I did not try in vain...

she is a wonderful, precious person
and all her life she has been rehearsing
she does it so well she is afraid to make a change
so she doesn't want to come out on the stage

she gets enough applause from the side
but she wonders if it is real
she has so much to give inside
yet she's not sure how to feel

for all her life she's been given pain
she needs sunshine to shine through her rain
I tried and now I'm trying to explain
if I can't try again
I did not try in vain...

she is worth every effort you make
she has a priceless heart inside
she can give even more than she'll take
but all she dares to do is hide

she just needs to remember herself
and I hope I can remind her
she's lived her life on an empty shelf
and I hope I can find her

told she was worthless, told she was no good
by the mother she trusted to mold her
and before she was old enough to think for herself
she believed what her mother told her
kept in a closet, kept silent and down
by the men she trusted to hold her
told she did not have a mind of her own
and before long believed what they told her...
oh --- she's believing what they told her...

but I know her heart, it's good and it's pure
I have been close to her light
and I know when she's cold and closes her door
she's just trying to prove her mother right
foolishly acting out of spite
and she hates herself tonight
but I know the love inside her
I have been close to her light
inside her is a child who never had a chance
she deserves a chance
  to come out and dance...

all she's ever known is pain...
she needs sunshine to shine through the rain...
now I am trying to explain
if I can't try again
I did not try in vain...

she is worth every effort you make
she has a priceless heart inside
she can give even more than she'll take
but all she dares to do is hide

she just needs to remember herself
and I hope I can remind her
she's lived her life on an empty shelf
and I hope I can find her

this one is for my best friend
  I hope she believes...
it's up to her to change her world
  it's just her she deceives...
