The Process

Step 1 - Explore Climate Zones

First you need to learn about the 5 climate zones. Visit World Climates to view a map that shows the locations of these zones. Read the descriptions below after you study the map. Which zone interests you the most?

  • Tropical - Moist Tropical Climates are known for their high temperatures year round and for their large amount of year round rain.
  • Dry - Dry Climates are characterized by little rain and a huge daily temperature range.
  • Temperate - These climates are have mild temperatures and plenty of moisture. They are located near water so land/water differences play a large role in their climate conditions. These climates have warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
  • Cold Continental - Continental Climates can be found in the interior regions of large land masses. They are often very dry and temperatures can vary greatly depending on the season.
  • Polar - These climates are part of areas where permanent ice and tundra are always present. Only about four months of the year have above freezing temperatures. Only the most adventurous travelers would prefer a polar vacation!
