Reading Response Log Entries

 

 

      

At least once a week my students respond to literature by writing journal entries. Here are some entries dealing with books we've read recently.

Greg's Entry for I Have a Dream: The Story of Martin Luther King

"We got our heads up and now we won't ever bow down again." That’s an inspiration to all men. Once you succeed keep on doing better. This book is a continuing inspiration to me. Seeing all the things Martin went through makes wonder why did he keep on going strong? He fought for our freedom and I am proud of him. He makes me feel honored to be called black or African American! Martin is my hero. I look up to him as a role model! Some day I wish to be as important as he is today. Even though I hear the story over and over again, I never get tired of seeing black, peoples (King) lead them to freedom!!!
   

Brandie's Entry for Jason's Gold

This book has been very good. It is full of adventure and some parts are filled with sadness. The part I want to tell about is filled with lots of sadness. When Jason went on the White Pass, which some people called The Dead Horse Trail, I felt sad for all of the animals on it. People were killing their horses for food and some were killing them for no reason. At the top of the pass there was a man who killed the horses who had made it through the whole pass without dying. I also feel sorry for the huskies that the man was drowning. Jason did the right thing to save King ( one of the huskies ) before he drowned also. The White Pass was just killing everywhere and that made me very sad.

I love Jason’s Gold! It is a wonderful book. The author uses a lot of good imagery! I really thought it was going to be more like Hatchet, which I really didn’t enjoy. Really though, it is way better! When King the Husky died it was really sad. Poor Puppy! I can’t wait to finish it!

My favorite character would have to be Jason. He is very adventurous and sneaky. I would love to try and be a stowaway on a ship… even if it is wrong! It sounds fun and interesting. Just doing something different for a day is cool. Wouldn’t you, for a few days do a little something non-average, different from your regular day? That is why Jason is my favorite character.
