Canisolida Mastiff Rescue's Adoption Procedures and Response to Inquiries:

Thanks for your interest in mastiff rescue. Canisolida Mastiff Rescue is a small, private volunteer-operated rescue endeavor that participates in a small number of pet adoptions annually. When a dog is available for adoption, the information is posted at Petfinder.com (www.petfinder.org) and at the Canisolida Mastiff Rescue Homepage (www.canisolida.com). Applications are accepted when dogs are listed.

Our application procedure mainly involves:

Our application procedure may also include:

The two main foci of our screening process are:

1. The compatibility of the potential new owner with the adoptable dog
2. The pet-owning responsibility displayed by the potential owner

Each dog has particular needs and it is not productive to attempt a placement that is incompatible to the dog's needs. The provisions of a potential owner must align with the needs of the adoptable dog.
Pet-owning responsibility is something that will be judged and applicants who demonstrate a very high level of responsibility in pet owning are desirable as owners. The following conditions are considered desirable in the homes we seek for our adoptable dogs:

While we do believe strongly in above ground fencing, you may have a special circumstance that you want to be considered. We will review every situation and determine what is best for the adoptable dog. We do not believe that tethering a dog in any way or underground fencing is a viable alternative to above ground fencing. We do, however, understand that the large property owner may have a unique situation that allows the dog supervised outdoor play that is remote from other homes and roads.

If you are approved to adopt one of our dogs, we will have a volunteer complete a home visit. This process is essential in establishing personal contact between the family and the rescue group and to assure confidence in one another's sincerity in the process of adoption. In a few cases, the home visit is completed at the time of adoption.

You can anticipate that we will request a donation fee not to exceed $300.00 at the time of adoption. We ensure that any dog in our program is fully vetted and that includes spay and/or neuter.

We do encourage correspondence of any interested person for any adoptable dog we list. If you develop a strong interest in adoption of a particular dog, it is then that you should complete the application. Each listing includes either a link to the application & directions for its completion, or contact information of a volunteer who will facilitate the application procedure for you.

Our application establishes for us some basic information about you and the setting you can provide an adoptable dog. It gives us insight into your philosophies as a pet owner.

On many occasions, we will post an adoptable dog as a courtesy to the owner of the dog. If we do this, it is because we have had the opportunity learn important information about the dog & feel comfortable in listing their information. While the dog is not officially a part of our program, we have invested an interest in assisting the dog's rehoming process. If we have approved a potential match for the dog through our application procedures, the actual adoption is handled privately between the adopter and the party with the dog and may not involve us directly.

While our personal mastiffs are not "on display" we do allow visitations for people interested in interacting with mastiffs, especially those people who are unfamiliar with the breed. If you are unfamiliar with the mastiff breed and are considering adopting a representative of the breed, we strongly urge you to ensure you have interacted with mastiffs and have gained a first hand knowledge of their characteristics. Visits must be scheduled ahead of time.

We welcome email inquiries and can offer the knowledge we have accumulated about mastiffs, particularly those who have had an unsettled lifestyle, or a life of deprivation. Most of all, we wish for good rapport with you & good fortune for the mastiffs we are able to assist.

Sincerely,

The Canisolida Mastiff Rescue Team
