Marley several months after surgery
More pictures of Marley appear after her writeup.
Marley came to Cansiolida at the age of nine after being in a home for 5 years. Prior to that she had lived in a breeding kennel. Unfortunately, Marley's family could not keep her due to changes in their lives. So she came to Canisolida to retire in comfort.
Marley had arrived with some medical issues. She has diabetes insipidus, which is now under control, after veterinary testing and treatment. Thanks to MCOA Rescue and The Kirbys for funding that portion of Marley's medical care.
Beyond her diabetes, though, Marley had been afflicted with numerous sebaceous cysts all over her skin, two ulcerated cysts (open sores that will not heal), and a tumor within one of her nipples. Marley was then scheduled to have the tumor and cysts removed. The tumor was biopsied to determine if it was malignant or benign. We felt this was very important for Marley to have this surgery to ensure she can be as healthy as possible for her age.
Marley is quite agile. At the age of 9.5 years, she still runs, plays, and she can hop up into the van to go for a ride. She enjoys herself here and it would be unfair to her to allow the cysts and tumor to go untreated. She is one of Cindy's queens and Cindy is interested in ensuring she can age gracefully here in her last stage of life.
The next 2 pictures show the ulcerated cysts that Marley successfully had removed:
