November 2004 entry:
THE CHESTERFIELD KINGS WRITE
AND RECORD A NEW SONG FOR THE MOTION PICTURE 'CHRISTMAS
WITH THE KRANKS' AND
CELIBRATE WITH A LIVE SHOW AT THE WATER STREET MUSIC HALL DECEMBER
11th, 2004 WHEN "LITTLE
STEVEN'S UNDERGROUND GARAGE PRESENTS""CHRISTMAS A GO-GO!"
This past summer The Chesterfield Kings were asked to write a Christmas song for the new Sony / Columbia Tri-Star film 'CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS' which stars Tim Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Akroyd, and Cheech Marin. The film is based on a novel by John Grisham and was directed by Joe Roth (America's Sweethearts) and produced by Chris Columbus. The movie opens in theaters November 25.
The Chesterfield Kings new original used in the film is "Hey Santa Claus" which was co-produced by Little Steven Van Zandt and the band. The song also appears on the Hollywood Records 'Christmas With The Kranks' Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
To celebrate the 'Christmas With The Kranks' film a special happening is planned at the Water Street Music Hall on December 11, 2004 when LITTLE STEVEN'S UNDERGROUND GARAGE PRESENTS "Christmas A Go Go!" featuring The Chesterfield Kings with special guests from Pittsburgh - The Cynics, from Boston The Charms (also on the Christmas with the Kranks' soundtrack), from Cleveland The Rainy Day Saints and opening the show St. Phillips Escalator. The show will be hosted and MC'd by Little Steven and sponsored by 96 WCMF and Freetime. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster - $15 advance $17 day of the show.
Van Zandt, the executive producer for the 'CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS' soundtrack, has overseen what's certainly the rock n' roll holiday album of this season, which includes brand new Little Steven-arranged-and-produced recordings of original songs and classics by rockers Davie Allan & The Arrows, The Charms, Jean Beauvoir, newcomer Tina Sugandh and a cast version of his own holiday song "Navidad." These exciting tracks are amongst original and classic songs from The Raveonettes, The Ramones, Brenda Lee, The Butties, Elvis Presley, and a mind-blowing version of "The Nutcracker Suite" by The Brian Setzer Orchestra..
Hollywood Records will release
the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 'Christmas with the Kranks'
on November 23.
Track Listing:
Ramones "Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight)"
The Charms "Frosty The Snowman"
The Raveonettes "The Christmas Song"
Tina Sugandh "White Christmas"
Jean Beauvoir "Merry Christmas to All the World"
Rene Lavan and Austin Pendleton from the Cast "Navidad
Davie Allan & the Arrows "Feliz Navidad"
The Chesterfield Kings "Hey Santa Claus"
Brenda Lee "Jingle Bell Rock"
The Butties "Joy to the World"
The Brian Setzer Orchestra "The Nutcracker Suite"
Elvis Presley "Blue Christmas"
The soundtrack is yet another example of Little Steven's unceasing devotion to rock n' roll. He hosts the acclaimed Little Steven's Underground Garage, a syndicated, weekly radio show that airs in over 190 markets in North America (on WCMF in Rochester), as well as 45 countries, and is Executive Producer of the Underground Garage channel on SIRIUS Satellite Radio. This past summer, he started Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival, a history-making event that took place August 14, 2004 in New York City and featured over forty bands in a single day. Over 15,000 fans attended despite repeated hurricane warnings.
Being the coolest D.J. in the country is just the latest chapter in a long and distinguished musical career. Van Zandt is an acclaimed record producer for artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Artists United Against Apartheid, Darlene Love, Lone Justice, Gary U.S. Bonds, Michael Monroe, Lords of the New Church, and the Arc Angels. A gifted songwriter, he has written songs for artists including Jimmy Cliff, Southside Johnny, Gary U.S. Bonds, Brian Setzer, and Darlene Love.
In addition, Steven is a well-known musician in his own right, performing as a founding member of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as well as with his own band Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul. In 1999 Steven added yet another facet to his mercurial career: acting. He plays Silvio Dante in HBO's critically acclaimed dramatic series, The Sopranos, which completed its fifth season this year.

country, in addition to a forthcoming "Underground Garage"
channel on SIRIUS satellite radio. With the International Underground
Garage Festival, Steven and Dunkin' Donuts promise to make the
same impact on the concert industry.
Founded in 1950, Dunkin' Donuts is the number one retailer of
coffee-by-the-cup in America, selling 2.7 million cups a day,
nearly one billion cups a year. Dunkin' Donuts is also the largest
coffee and baked goods chain in the world and sells more donuts,
coffee, bagels and muffins than any other quick service restaurant
in America. Dunkin' Donuts has more than 5,800 stores in the United
States and 29 other countries. Based in Randolph, MA, Dunkin'
Donuts is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Allied Domecq PLC. For

The Romantics and The Chesterfield Kings to Tour North America
The Romantics and the Chesterfield Kings, two bands that were pioneers of the early 80's rock & roll revival, will be touring together for the first time throughout North America, behind two new albums that many are considering to be the finest work of both band's well respected careers.
Best known for their pop anthem classic "What I Like About You", the Romantics return with 61/49 (Web Entertainment),their most rock solid offering in years. Named for the storied crossroads near Clarksdale, Mississippi where bluesman Robert Johnson made his pact with the devil, 61/49 is intended as a tip of the hat to the roots of rock 'n' roll and the nucleus of The Romantics' fervent pop.
The Mindbending Sounds Of The Chesterfield Kings (Sundazed Music) finds the legendary band turned loose on the world once again with a snarling new album. After 20 years of leading the pack, the Kings are still the hands-down heavyweight champs of today's bubbling psychedelic/garage world. With production help here from the scene's preeminent big daddy, Little Steven (who accompanies the guys on their new single, "I Don't Understand"), Rochester, New York's bad boys have indelibly scorched into tape 14 brand new Farfisa 'n' fuzz-laden killers.
The midwest leg of the tour
will start February 18th in Flint, Michigan, followed by consecutive
nights in Grand Rapids , Toledo, Cleveland, and Chicago, IL
with dates to follow on the west coast, the east coast, the south
and Canada.
Romantics 61/49: Rolling Stone Magazine - "3-stars... The elder statesmen of Detroit garage rock... The Romantics are every bit as visceral and R&B-infused a band as Jack and Meg White."
The Mindbending Sounds Of The Chesterfield Kings: Rolling Stone Magazine - "The Chesterfield Kings have been bending minds back to the heaven that was '67 since 1979, when the 1960's punk revival barley filled a two-car garage... Yesterday's wow played with a whole lotta now."

May 2003 entry:
The Chesterfield Kings have
been busy in the studio hard at work on their new LP "The
Mindbending Sounds Of". Along the way there have been a few
changes and many exciting new developments.
During the summer of 2001 Ted, the band's guitarist, lost his
eyesight due to complications with his diabetic condition. Unfortunately,
as a result of his illness he was no longer able to function with
the band. At about the same time The Moviees, who were on the
Kings' Living Eye label, were also going through some changes
in their line up. The Chesterfield Kings and the Moviees have
had a great, long-standing relationship as Greg and Andy produced
the Moviees critically acclaimed LP "Become One Of Them"
released on Living Eye / Sundazed Records. Because the Moviees
were breaking up it was a natural progression for the Chesterfield
Kings to ask Paul Morabito the Moviees lead guitarist, singer
and front man to join the Kings line-up.
Greg, Andy, Mike and Paul got together once to play a few songs
together-there was an instant chemical reaction, and they all
knew it was meant to happen! Literally within a day the band started
work on a new Chesterfield Kings LP, "The Mind Bending Sounds
Of". The album consists of 14 all new originals, and is a
record that the band always intended to do but never did due to
time limitations. Now that they have their own 24 track studio
filled with every vintage instrument and piece of equipment imaginable,
recording has become a function of the band they most enjoy. Experimenting
and trying all kinds of musical ideas in the studio is now a luxury
as there are no studio constraints. The band describes the new
LP as a "Pre-hippie, pre-67, psychedelic-punk recording.
. . drenched with reverb, tremolo, fuzz and echo. . .flipped out
guitar breaks...snotty Jagger-esque (what else?) vocals...assorted
'Freak-Outs' and 'Rave-ups'...A vivid assortment of Sights (??)
and Sound... a mind bending trip!". The few who have had
an audio glimpse of the album describe it as "Psychedelic
Stones"...Right-on...
During the recording of the LP the band crossed paths with Steven
Van Zandt when they were invited by Steven to the gala opening
of his spectacular syndicated radio show "Little Steven's
Underground Garage" held in Manhattan at the Hard Rock Café.
Little Steven and the band hit it off well and next thing you
know, Steven was helping out with the production of the album.
With his ever busy schedule as Silvio on the Sopranos, playing
with Bruce Springsteen and producing his weekly syndicated radio
show (we don't know how he does it all!) Steven found the time
to make it up to Rochester to the band's Living Eye Studios to
work on the recordings. The lead track on the LP "I Don't
Understand" was co-written and produced by Steven.
The new album also features the band's long time friend the legendary
Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen who plays lead on
two of the tracks. Jorma's leads are definitely mindbending!
In the course of recording the new LP the band was summonsed by
their label Sundazed to record a few surf tunes for a limited
edition 45 that would only be available on the Sundazed web site.
The boys instantaneously dropped out of their psychedelic phase
and geared directly into surf mode, cutting two of their fave
Beach Boys tunes "Girl Don't Tell Me" and "Barbara
Ann", now available on the Sundazed web site.
"The Mindbending Sounds Of The Chesterfield Kings" is
now complete-- with a release date of
August 26th, 2003 on Sundazed Records distributed by Koch International.
The band has signed with The Agency Group in Los Angeles and are
working closely with their agent Val Wolfe on a tour of the US
and Europe to promote the new LP. The boys plan on being in a
city near you - look out here they come!! So--turn-on, tune-in
and drop-out-and...make the scene... Till the next trip!
All the best!
