The Moviees
Living Eye 45 (LSD-4)
"Come On" b/w "You Got What I Want"
The first new release on Living Eye Records came out with a bang, presenting a 2 - sided killer by a group of upstate mods better known as The Moviees. Their influences crash through on their version of the Boy Blue/ Sorrows mod-masterpiece "You Got What I Want", a rendition on par with the original, which is saying a lot... The Moviees' self penned "Come On", takes a trip to the other side of the Atlantic, namely the Texas prairie, by combining elements of sound typified by the likes of the Moving Sidewalks and Thursdays Children.
We think you get the picture, so we'll say no more, except make room for these boys on the rising teen-scene.

Edinburgh-based beat group The Thanes have been active on the group scene for a good many years, releasing their first records in 1987, and this summer 2000 sees them launch their new 45 in USA on Living Eye Records. These are the newest recordings of the group captured in the wilds of the Scottishborders. The Thanes made a memorable appearance at the Misty Lane Expo 2000 in Rome alongside The Chocolate Watchband and others, and made their very first appearance in the USA on Sun July 2 at the Las Vegas Grind hootenanny, appearing alongside such greats as The Standells, The Remains and The Crawdaddys. The single's A side 'It's Just A Fear' is a long-time in concert fave of the group, and was originally done in 1966 by UK group The Answers. Since 1994-95 the group has stabilised around Lenny Helsing, guitar and vocals; Mal Kergan, bass and vocals; Angus McPake, organ and guitar; Mike Goodwin, drums.
The Thanes - "It's Just A Fear"
b/w "Sun Didn't Come Out Today" 45
The Chesterfield Kings - "Yes, I Understand"
b/w "Sometime At Night" 45
The A side is the theme from the movie: "Yes, I Understand", and the flip is a fab version of the BEAU BRUMMELS' "Sometime At Night" which features the Beau Brummels icon lead singer himself-Sal Valentino! Sal and Greg do a duo-lead vocal very much on the level of the original version...Sal is still in top form as you will see.
Returning to their true punk roots, Rochester's beloved Chesterfield Kings present a long-overdue set of karbon-monoxified klassics by perennial garage faves like the Blues Magoos, the Syndicate Of Sound, the Yardbirds, the Third Bardo and the Chocolate Watchband. And, parlaying their sumptuous joint appearance at Cavestomp '98 into a semi-permanent arrangement, Mark Lindsay has co-written a butt-kicking track here with Greg 'n' Andy called "Where Do We Go From Here?" Nowhere, we hope. To paraphrase Ray Davies, this is exactly where these guys belong.
