7 ways to deal ... with the pain of grief

1. Seek out caring people. Find supportive relatives and friends who are compassionate and will treat you sensitively.

2. Express Feelings. Let others know how you are feeling and what you are feeling. Feelings expressed are feelings diminished.

3. Take care of your health. Be in touch with your physician. Eat healthy, nutritious, balanced meals. Drink more water. Get plenty of rest.

4 Postpone major life changes. Give yourself time to properly adjust to the loss.

5. Be hopeful. Ins spite of the pain, try to reassure yourself that your life is not over, although it will be different. You still have a future that can be meaningful and joyous.

6 Remain patient. It can take a long time- two, three or more years to absorb and adjust to the loss of a loved one. Give it time.

7. Seek outside help if necessary. If your grief feels too heavy to bear, don't hesitate to seek out a therapist, counselor or spiritual leader.
