Charles Kamathi Fastest 10K runner in the world in 1999 is coming to the Ras!
The 2000 Ras na hEireann committee is pleased to confirm that Mr. Kamathi will be racing on the 26th of March, 2000 at the Ras na hEireaann race in Dunleer, County Louth Ireland. Mr. Kamathi ran the fastest time in the world last year for 10,000m-26:51-and he recently won the IAAF Cross Internacional de Italica in Seville on January 16, 2000, beating Paul Tergat and Patrick Ivuti. Mr. Kamathi was ranked number one after Seville for the IAAF Cross Country Challenge. In addition to Mr. Kamathi, the following other members of the Kenyan teams will be competing: Mr. Gabriel Muchiri-ranked seventh after the second IAAF Cross Country Challenge in Seville and he is a member of the national team for the 1999 World Championships in the 10,000m after placing third in the 10,000m final in Nairobi, Kenya on June 24, 1999; Mr. Leonard Mucheru-ranked second in this year's Kenya cross-country meets in the 4k; and Mr. Sammy N'geno-finished 18th place in the first IAAF Cross Country Challenge and he is one of the top road racers in the U.S. Mr. Ng'eno won the Great Race 10k in Pittsburgh, PA on September 19 in a time of 27:54. For the women's team, Ms. Martha Komu will be leading the team. Ms. Komu just finished 3rd in the Hannut Cross Country meet in Brussels on January 23rd; Anne Wambui-won the final meet of the Kenya AAA cross-country circuit; and Anastacia Ndereba-placed in the top six in the last four cross-country meets in the Kenya AAA circuit.
