Transport

Emergency transport covered in situations of true emergencies.  The need for oxygen during transport does NOT justify emergency transport.  An elderly person who has difficulty in sitting upright does NOT justify emergency transport.

Non-emergent transport is a covered Medicaid services.  Upon request, the department of social services is to assist in arranging, scheduling and paying for transport to medical treatments.  The department can insist upon reimbursing costs rather than paying in advance.  For long distance trips, over night accommodations can be provided for the recipient and a care giver (parent).  Where medical appointment is scheduled in advance, request for transportation should be made 3 -5 days in advance of appointment.
