THE SPLITTING
HARE-ACHE
A FANTASTICALLY FUNNY STORY IS
PRODUCED AS A SHORT FILM
Bruce Wayne
Gillies chose to write, produce and direct THE SPLITTING HARE-ACHE as his second short
film. His first short film , CAR TROUBLE, DARLIN', also used
an apocryphal legend as a plot device and was successfully invited to film festivals
across the country and overseas.
THE SPLITTING HARE-ACHE focuses on
Mrs. Kenner, a friendly neighborhood homemaker, who's afternoon gardening is turned
upside-down when she discovers her pet dog has a rabbit in his mouth - dead!
Worse - it's her next door neighbor, Mr. Bickerson, kid's rabbit.
She acts quickly - cleaning up the
lifeless animal and then sneaks over the fence placing it gently back into its cage.
Then - she narrowly misses being caught only to find out later, after the police
stop-by, that her plan wasn't entirely without flaw.
The versatile McKerrin Kelly was
cast to play the delightfully pleasant Mrs. Kenner.
Most recently McKerrin can be seen
guest starring in the international Warner Bros. TV show THE NEW ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD.
In addition, McKerrin has a
substantial stage background and training - having won numerous best actress awards.
In THE SPLITTING HARE-ACHE she is
near perfect - delivering a subtle, but strong, performance as the proverbial
victim-of-circumstance, the genuine article.
After having cast McKerrin Kelly she
reminded Bruce that a fellow troupe player from THE NEW ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD would be
perfect for the part of Mr. Bickerson.
And that reminder proved to be spot-on when Eric Gerleman was cast as the sometimes cranky next door neighbor,
Mr. Bickerson.
Eric's deadpan delivery of an
annoyed neighbor is smartly portrayed in THE SPLITTING HARE-ACHE and reveals an
experienced, solid performance adding to his considerable theater, movie, and TV roles.
This was the second short film for
writer, producer, and director, Bruce Wayne Gillies.
Bruce has also directed a feature
film and two additional shorts. Plus, he directed second unit dramatic action
sequences for a hit TV adventure show, two music videos, several television sports,
entertainment and news shows and commercials.
Gillies was
born and raised in the downriver area of Detroit, Michigan; a suburb known as Southgate.
He studied Cinematic Arts at Central Michigan
University while supporting himself as a college sports television producer/director
and radio D.J.
Bruce has also worked as a Line Producer, UPM or 1ST A.D. on feature films, music videos,
commercials, and television. He has written five screenplays, five
shorts films, and two television treatments.

Like many short
films, THE SPLITTING HARE-ACHE would not have been possible without the generous
contributions from cast and crew alike.
