A scary suspense-thriller film about a university graduate assistant, STAN CHAPSKY, who
chooses achluophobia, fear of THE DARK, for his summer session psychology phobia
class to study. A student is the first person missing. His old girlfriend, JENNY CALINGER,
calls around to find him and can't. Jenny likes Stan while KELLY FLETCHER, a DPS Officer,
is who Stan really likes.
On campus Jenny is almost run over by the omnipresent MAINTENANCE PERSON. She asks friends BRAD SINGLE, CARL CARRUTHERS, and MICHELLE WEN about missing student, no luck. Then together, Jenny, Stan and Kelly look for Daniel. Stan and Jenny must leave Daniel's apartment for class, Kelly makes a grisly discovery. Kelly is ordered by city POLICE INVESTIGATOR ELLIS not to tell anyone about the case until his investigation is over.
Meanwhile, student CARRISA GOLAS and DOUGLAS MEDGOPH make love. Douglas teases Carrisa about being afraid of THE DARK, she leaves and Douglas too is soon missing. Elsewhere, the school president, PRESIDENT VOTTEN, supports P.I. Ellis and wants to keep student disappearances from being reported to the press. After a night out several gather at the local dam to drink and swim. A student vanishes in front of the other students and they become upset and want answers.
Kelly, the DPS Officer, disagrees with the students going out searching for a killer/kidnapper on their own, they ignore her concerns. Carl and Brad go back to the dam, Carrisa and Michelle go looking for Douglas.
A menacing electrical storm passes through area knocking out the power while President Votten and P.I. Ellis are forced to hold a press conference to address the missing students in THE DARK.
At her sorority house Carrisa comes in contact with an unidentifiable presence just as the power returns. Brad goes to work at the library and is attacked.
Stan and Kelly make love and then discover what is they are up against!!! Stan gathers everyone left in his dorm room. The determination is made to warn other classmates of the danger. Pandemonium breaks out on campus as parents are starting to pull the children from the college.
The group decides that they should confront this dark energy in an attempt to stop it. Now in Stan's classroom the confrontation with THE DARK begins, Stan yells for someone to kill the lights. The Maintenance Person does so... ZING!
