Blandwood Mansion! Blandwood Mansion in downtown Greensboro is the homeplace of former North Carolina Governor John M. Morehead. The original two-story clapboard farmhouse was built in the 1790’s and expanded in the 1820’s. In 1846 architect Alexander Davis linked portions of the property with his Italianate addition. It is said that this addition sparked the Italian Villa style that swept the country in the mid 1800’s. The addition includes arcades that link the kitchen complex and the governor’s law office to the main house. The house is registered as a National Historic Landmark and is the oldest standing example of the Italian Tuscan Villa style in the United States. The house contains several furnishing originally owned by the Morehead family such as the parlor furniture group, a corner cupboard, Mrs. Morehead’s silver tea service, a vest belonging to Mr. Morehead, and original artwork by Latitia Morehead, the Morehead’s eldest daughter. The library at Blandwood contains a complete history of the Morehead family as well as Governor Morehead’s writings on the North Carolina Railroad. The North Carolina Railroad is one of the governor’s greatest achievements. Join us as the TMC tours Blandwood February 12th. Want to know more before we go? A Witness From The Christmas Party & Little On The Technical Side Our annual Christmas Party was this past December. I would like to put an article Tireprints, but due to a family vacation, I was not there. If you would like to write an article, I will put it in the March edition. You can send it via snail mail or email me: bran@prodigy.net.Do you have technical expertise? If so tell us about it. Send in your Miata modification letters and we will tell everyone in the club how easy it was to install that supercharger, performance brake kit, kevlar clutch, or whatever piece you are brave enough to tackle. I recently installed a grill guard on the front of my Miata. Installation of the guard itself was simple. Just a 14mm socket ratchet and three minutes and viola…it was done. However, removal of the tie down hooks was a different story. It took me thirty minutes on my back to get those puppies off. But now I have protection for my radiator. My ’95 M-Edition was not so fortunate (I had to replace the radiator after I met a rather large piece of angle iron on I-40 at 70mph) My next addition is going to be a roll bar. After I decide on a manufacturer and a style, I’ll let you know how the installation goes. -Bran |
