Dan writes: “I bought N198V as a project over 4 years ago. Its a 1969 17-30. I began rebuilding it October of 2002. It was completely stripped of its fabric, wings and all. It took a lot longer than I anticipated to rebuild this type of airplane. We rebuilt, overhauled, and upgraded N198V. It has an IO-520-K installed instead of the IO-520-D, approved by FAA and a DER. It was covered with AirTech Coatings STC. New interior and many other new parts and equipment. I won't list everything that was replaced or overhauled on the airframe and engine, I just know our check book took a beating!! The panel is not IFR. Someone in the future can give it an upgrade, I can't afford it right now. It has a pair of TKM MX11 comms, Narco navs, Magellan Skynav GPS, Narco AT50A Xponder, Century II, and Softcom intercom. Since the first test flight, I've had to replace the entire alternator system, replace the coils in the magnetos, and replaced the fuel boost pump. She flies like a dream!! and has about 8 hours on it now.”
“I have to thank my wife Jennifer and my girls, Laiken and Rhealan, for putting up with days spent at the airport, airplane parts all over the house, and more money spent on the airplane than up keep on the house!! We have a 1973 17-31A that is next for a rebuild. Unfortunately we will have to part with this one someday. I'll regretfully post when it's for sale.”
