Club History
The Junior Women's Club of Bristol, Inc. was
organized on April 25, 1935. This club is dedicated to
working together to better ourselves and our community. The
object of the club, as set forth in its by-laws, reads: "To
unite the women of Bristol for mutual improvement by study
and entertainment and for advancement of social and civic
interest in the city." Our pledge symbolizes what the Junior Women's
Club of Bristol is all about. We, as Juniors, take this to
heart and apply it to all aspects of our lives.
Cultural and Educational programs have been a part of
the history of our club throughout the years. In 1953,
the scholarship award was established as a yearly project. For more than 50 years,
we have awarded Bristol students with scholarships, enabling them to pursue higher
education. We are especially proud of these and other contributions we have made to our community.
We have devoted countless hours to volunteer service and made material and
financial contributions to many local charitable and civic organizations,
such as: Bristol Hospital, Bristol Girl's Club, Forestville Boy's Club,
Barnes Nature Center, Terryville High School Environmental Club and Bristol
Public Library, in addition to national organizations like the American Red Cross,
VFW, American Heart Association and the Salvation Army.
We are one of fifty-three Junior and twelve
Juniorette clubs in Connecticut which form Connecticut Junior
Women, Inc.(CJW) CJW, Inc. was part of the
General Federation of Women's Clubs until 1979, when the
Connecticut organization became independent. CJW is made up
of more than 1,450 members working together toward common goals.
