ABOUT OUR PROJECT

  1. Project Overview:  To raise funds and create awareness for this organization.

  2. Project Parts:

    1. Fundraising: Our goal is to raise the funds necessary to open a second resource center to be located in New Haven County. Juniors are also committed to looking for ways to educate the community about the Time for Life services and how families who need their services can contact them.

    2. Awareness: Time for Life sponsors a summer camp for families of children with cancer. This camp offers the child as well as the family an opportunity for a "vacation". The financial burden of cancer treatment or the child's fragile health often prevent not only the child, but the family from a summer camp/vacation time. Time for Life is staffed and equipped to include these children and families in the "camp" experience.

  3. Progress:

    1. Clubs across the state have been holding fundraisers and have made donations to this project. As of May 3, 2003, $22,747 has been raised toward an initial 2-year goal of $35,000, the estimated amount needed to open a second resource center in New Haven county. See CJW Events for details on Current and Upcoming Projects.

CJW/Time for Life has received $466 from Yankee Magazine subscriptions as of May 3, 2003.

As of May 3, 2003, clubs have ordered a total of 30 books for the Resource Center. 1 book was also donated to the resource center as a special State Project Award in honor of a member club.

The Junior Women's Club of Bristol has received donations of (2) digital cameras (valued at over $400), which have been given to Time for Life. These were items on their wish list.

112 Beach Bags were created and donated to Time for Life's summer camp. These contain all the toys, sunscreen, hats and little necessities that the children will use during their camp "experience". The children will be able to keep the bags and fillings to take home with them after camp is over.

60 Baskets were donated for Mother's Day. Each huge basket was filled with pampering items like bubble bath, perfume, scented candles, and more. These were distributed to the mothers of children diagnosed with cancer as part of a program designed to give the mothers a "day off" from the stress of everyday life. The mothers were treated to a "day at the spa" and received a basket to take home with them.

4 clubs have "Adopted" a family in the Time for Life program. They will provide items and moral support for each family based on requests from each family.

At the "Festival of Trees/ Christmas Gala", sponsored by Time for Life at the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford, 16 decorated trees were donated, raising $2000 for Time for Life.

Clubs collected 36 rolls and 10 bags of gift wrap and bows for our "Wrap & Rap" project. Member clubs collected, wrapped and donated toys for the children of Time for Life -- all handed out by Santa himself!

100 Rolls of gold ribbon have been collected, some of which was used for the Mother's Day baskets and the rest will be used for "Hannah's Gift", a new program of Time for Life. Watch for details on this exciting program coming this fall. We'll certainly continue to need your help!
