This is your special day – the one you’ve been waiting for since you were a little girl! You’ve spent a lot of time preparing for this day and you want everything to be perfect! Your wedding album will be your lifetime reminder of what this day was like. Some important things to consider for your portraits are
(a) selecting the right wedding gown – find the right type of dress for your body type and also one that will fit the time of day in which your wedding will be held;
(b) shoes – find comfortable shoes and make sure you break them in before the wedding;
(c) veil – take your veil with you to the hairdresser so she knows what you will be wearing in your hair;
(d) accessories – keep it simple;
(e) hairdresser – set up styling appointments before your wedding day to try out your hairdo;
(f) photographer – ask to see photos from previous weddings and ask for references. For now, we offer these make-up tips to help you prepare for your wedding day.
1. START A SKIN CARE PROGRAM at least one year before the wedding. Get your skin in the best shape that it’s ever been in. The four steps are cleansing, toning, exfoliating and moisturizing. Your makeup will only look as good as the skin underneath, so take good care of it!
2. SELECT THE RIGHT FOUNDATION. Find a color that matches your skin tone close enough to cover any imperfections. You don’t want to look “made up”, you want to look beautiful and natural. If you are going to be tanning, wait till you are finished tanning before selection your foundation color. A powder based foundation that is applied with a sponge will last much longer than a liquid foundation. Powder is also important to avoid facial shine for your photographs. Carry this product with you so you can touch up throughout the day as needed.
3. CONCEAL YOUR IMPERFECTIONS. Apply concealer to mask dark circles and under-eye imperfections. To apply concealer correctly, pat on three dots of concealer and blend lightly with fingertip or makeup sponge. Avoid rubbing. Concealer may also be applied to any other imperfections of blemishes on your face.
4. EYE DOS FOR DAYTIME WEDDINGS – Apply a Shadow Control Crème under your eye shadow to help prolong color and prevent fading and creasing. Line outer corners of top and bottom lash lines with eye liner. Start at the outer corner of eye and move in toward the center of the eye using small strokes. Smudge to soften. Sweep on a light shadow from lashes to brow. Dot an eraser-head amount of a darker shadow on the outer corner of each eye. Blend inward toward the center of the eye, above the lash line and into the crease, creating a sideways V. Use an eyelash curler to curl lashes, then apply waterproof mascara.
5. EYE DOS FOR EVENING WEDDINGS – Apply a Shadow Control Crème as above and apply eyeliner. Apply a thicker line than normal for day, on the top lash only. Be sure bottom liner is well smudged so there is no obvious line. Sweep on a light shade from lashes to brow. Apply darker shade heavily on lid and blend well. Use eyelash curler to curl lashes, then apply waterproof mascara to upper and lower lashes. For a more intense look, add a second coat to only the outer corners of top and bottom lashes.
6. EYEBROWS should be tweezed from underneath – following its natural shape. Pull hairs in the direction that they grow. You may want to have them professionally shaped for your wedding day. Fill in sparse brows with eyebrow pencil using short, feathery strokes. Brush upward and outward to blend. Match shade to natural brow color.
7. BLUSH should be applied below the cheek bone, just under the center of the eye, sweeping upwards toward the hair line and eye edge. Blend well with sponge. For color that lasts, apply powder before blush.
8. LIPS should be filled in with a lip primer to enhance fullness, fill in lines, minimize fine lines, eliminate lip color bleeding and prolong color. Line lips with lip liner, following the natural line of the lips. Apply lip color. Apply clear lip gloss to center for a healthy shine. Avoid deep, dark shades which made lips look smaller.
