Parks and development departments merge

UNION COUNTY: County Manager George W, Devanney yesterday announced the merger of the county's Department of Parks, Recreation and Facilities and the Department of Economic Development into the Department of Parks and Community Renewal.
Al Faella, who headed the county's economic development office, has become the director of the new department, which will have 320 employees. Charles Sigmund, who had served as county parks and recreation director, will be the new department's deputy director.
"It made sense to bring these two departments together to help maximize the full potential of the new properties and our existing facilities," Devanney said.
The Department of Parks and Community Renewal will consist of five divisions, including the Division of Information Technologies, Division of Planning and Community Development, Division of Park Maintenance and Administrative Support, Division of Parks Planning and Environmental Services, and Division of Golf Operations.
The new department will also include the newly created Bureau of Community Relations and Outreach, which will work in conjunction with the Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
The Division of Facilities, formerly with Parks and Recreation, has been transferred to the Department of Public Works and Engineering, according to Devanney.
