In recent months there has been a good deal of newspaper coverage related to the Morristown & Erie Railway. Are they or are they not going to be allowed to rebuild two abandoned railroad companies and operate a freight service through eight municipalities in Union County? Refer to the "Railway Reactivation" section of this newsletter for the articles covering this story.
As Briant Park denizens we are interested in the potential impact that the railroad might have on the park. Consequently, in spite of the above mentioned newspaper coverage, many of us are left with such questions as:
- What former railroads are involved in the consolidation?
- In which towns does M&ER plan to operate?
- How are the tracks routed through the involved towns?
Since the local newspapers have not sufficiently answered these questions, the BPN staff has done some investigative reporting. In order to provide some answers we have put together a series of charts and maps. The following route maps make up the two pieces of the proposed Morristown & Erie Railway:
