Our very own Linda Pavona won the 2005 Star Telegram Woman of the year Award on 10-15-2005. She was so shocked and surprised. Brenda Jackson our director nominated her in March 2005 and kept the secret for 6 months. That is a miracle.

About Mrs. Linda Pavona:

Have you ever met someone that is so kind, loving, talented and friendly that she just lights up the room. Well, Linda Pavona is one of those people.

She makes everyone feels better just by being around her. But what she has done for the Foundation is short of a miracle.

I met Linda about five years ago when Christmas is for Children started helping the Foundation. She is delightful and full of pep and energy.

She does so much to help the community. Here are a few highlights.
· She heads up the school supplies drive for the Battered Women's Foundation
· She wrote a grant to Altrusa International Women's Club and got a funded to purchase 300 backpacks for our kids
· She was the Past President of Altrusa DFW Club for 2004-2005
· She heads up and volunteers in the community service program for the Altrusa Club
· She helped at Carroll High School on a Drug and Alcohol Dramatization Program recently to help kids get off drugs
· She works with several other shelters and agencies helping them with their needs
· She works with Grace on their volunteer staff
· She works volunteering with children at a local Hospital
· She gave advise and helped the BWF purchase and remodel our first safe house in 2005
o And she came in her paint clothes and stood on ladders and painted the exterior of the house for 3 weekends
o She painted the bathroom and when it was time for lunch she took our orders and promptly went and got lunch and soft drinks and still has not presented me with the bill to reimburse her.
· She diligently works with Christmas is for Children (CIFC). Each year she personally drives around Southlake and helps the Altrusa DFW deliver over 6000 red food bags to the Southlake Residents for upcoming food baskets. CIFC also adopts over 2000 Christmas Angels in the local area, including over 600 yearly for the BWF.
· She played a vital role in helping Christmas is for Children provide BWF over 500 gifts to our moms and kids last December.
· She showed up at 7 am on a cold day in December to help make 950 food baskets, then delivered the baskets, and then worked the Christmas Event at the BWF.
· She helps us prepare our monthly BWF Newsletters and Sponsor Packets
· She has advised us on new web ideas on our www.BWF1.com web page with suggestions and ideas for improvement.
· She has made photo albums, graphics boards and info packets so we can hand them out to supporters and other agencies.
· She helps with the ASTRA Clubs at the local junior and high schools in Southlake.
· She is always ready to help.
· When I call her and say Linda I have a project for you, some projects she does immediately and others take her 10 minutes. She has even helped me past midnight get a Grant in to a local foundation
· She knows everyone in town and does so much volunteer work I do not know when she sleeps.
· She helps the Altrusa Club with "Keep Southlake Beautiful Program." And yes she came out with her rubber gloves and trash sacks and walked the road cleaning up all kinds of strange items.
· Linda has a family with two kids and a hubby. I am so surprised with all she does that they ever get to see her. But they say they do.
· She also works full time at Remax Real Estate.
· I know Linda does much more than this -- but if I listed everything, I would never get this letter finished.
· She brings humor to everything she does, and always makes people laugh. Everybody loves her including me.

You see - Linda really does change lives! She is always ready willing and able to do any task to change lives for the good. She never complains or gets tied even though she must. She has never said Brenda, I don't think it would work, but constantly comes up with new ideas on how we can make our community a better place to live.

Linda is my Hero. She is one in a million. We are honored to have nominated her as The Star Telegram's Woman of the Year. We are so very honored to nominate her as Woman of the Year. I am so blessed to have her as a friend. She is truly an awesome woman!

Sincerely,

Brenda Jackson
