Outta my way!

The last NWARC lapping day of 2001 at SIR is scheduled for Saturday August 18. On September 9, the club will return to the Bremerton Raceway for track fun. The August date will again be limited to the first sixty-five drivers that register, but unlike the very successful June and July track dates, we will be hand-timing cars in the afternoon.

Our group of highly trained registrars will usher pre-registered cars and drivers through the gates beginning at 7:15 AM. Technical inspection starts at 7:30 AM. The mandatory drivers' meeting will be at 8:30 AM. The first track session will begin at 9:30 AM.

For about two and one-half hours we will have open lapping practice sessions followed by a lunch break. Box lunches will be provided for registered drivers, but pit crews and hangers-on should bring their own. After lunch drivers will return to the track in small groups where they will virtually have the track to themselves for four laps. There will be a warm-up and a cool-down lap as well as two timed laps. This day will provide an opportunity for each driver to see how much s/he has improved in the past year. (Rumor has it that there may even be trophies awarded!!!)

We don't expect to have as many novices at this event, but we will still provide some instruction for the novices. There are some great advantages to being a track instructor. Here is some more information.

There will also be intermediate and advanced run groups.

Previous participation in NWARC or other drivers' schools is recommended. Here are some important things to pass tech.

Technical inspection of your car is required before going onto the track. We recommend you have your car inspected before coming to SIR. You may call one of the following businesses to make an appointment for inspection prior to the event. Please do not show up without an appointment! These shops are busy and may not be able to accommodate you.

1. Alfa of Tacoma, (253) 572-2532
2. South Seattle - Ingram Enterprises, (206) 762-3931
3. Ferrari of Seattle (206) 329-7070
4. Tacoma - Bristow's Exclusive Auto Repair, (253) 471-1663

Make sure that your car is in good mechanical condition, although it will be inspected trackside, you are still responsible for your car being safe. NEW: There will be helmets available to rent on a first come first serve basis to rent at the track, contact me to reserve one. At the track technical inspection starts at 7:30 AM and the mandatory drivers meeting will be at 8:30 AM. First track session begins at 9:30 AM

Note:
1. Snell 85 rated, or newer helmet is required. Shatterproof eye protection is required.
2. Open cars must have securely mounted roll bar.
3. 3-point seat belts are acceptable. 2-point belts must be replaced by 5-point systems.
4. Clothing that extends from ankles, wrists and neck, and is made of a non-synthetic material. Cotton Levi's and a cotton long sleeved shirt is considered minimum, driving suits are recommended.
5. New Rule: Driving gloves are mandatory. No stringbacks

Remember - hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Bring your E-Z Ups or tarps for covering your pit area and equipment. Hopefully the E-Z Ups will be needed for shade rather than rain protection.
