Shrikes
Generally found in open areas on the plains.
Look for Northern Shrike in the winter and Loggerhead Shrikes
in the summer (there is some overlap).
- Swallows Road, West of Pueblo Reservoir; Pueblo County
One of the most productive locations to find both Shrikes
in season. Drive Swallows Road from Highway 50 south to cemetery.
(Good location for overlap and observing both species).
- Cherry Creek Reservoir; Arapahoe County
One or two birds of both species spend their respective seasons
at the State Park. Look west of the beaver pond.
(Usually posted on Interesting Bird Alert on homepage).
- Rocky Ford Wildlife Area; Crowley County
Look along Eastern edge of the wildlife area.
