No neatly framed maxims adorn the walls of  Edd Byrnes' ginchy new two-bedroom bachelor pad in rustic Coldwater Canyon.  No glowing mottos are inscribed on imperishable scrolls, and no selected pearls of wisdom are kept handy between worn book covers.

"I don't have any set of rules I live by," Edd insisted.  He squirmed at the thought of such a neatly packaged approach to life.  " I'm just a human being like everyone else."
