Mountain Journal
Living on a narrow stony ridge at 3500' means that some things are different: Snow may pass upward as it passes our deck, rime ice forms on the side of trees away from the wind, planes fly by below, and clouds pass through the living room.
As the months pass we will share the wonder
here in hope that you may share our delightful appreciation of this ever-changing
environment. Please stop by.
Mountain Guide
Walking throught the mountains or forest,
we see delight and experience wonder when we look most closely. Try that
here. Let your cursor wander and click, especially on

Uncover what you will, return and look again. Nothing remains the same
on a mountain.
August & September, 1998
We'd like to say that that's a view off the other side of the deck, but it's not.
It is where these mountain people hanker for.
August and September are acorn season on a mountain in the Blue Ridge. They have
reached maturity, as have the annual plants, ferns and mushrooms, and they fall
without announcement. The wind continues very light and temperatures reach their peak.
This acorn season is extremely dry, precipitating reds and yellows of a false fall.
