A View to the South

Looking south from our house we have ANB Harbor, named for the Alaska Native Brotherhood, whose hall is the building on the left with the long roof, just below the left bridge tower. This harbor is almost entirely used for commercial fishing boats. McConnell Bridge spans the channel to give us access to Japonski Island and our airport, Mt Edgecumbe Hospital (a Federally operated facility primarily for Native care), and Mt Edgecumbe High School, the state's excellent boarding school. The mountains to the south usually are clear of snow by August, but not this year. Snowfall during the late winter and spring of 1999 was excessive.
