Tlinget Indian canoes in Sitka Channel

Tlinget carvers spent many months on a new canoe, carved from a single red cedar log. The launching was the occasion for a "Gathering of Canoes," which took place in April 1999 in the channel across from our house.
Across the channel, directly above the red canoe on the left, at the top of the bluff, is a dark house with a front full of windows. That's our house, a small, bungalow-style, two bedroom, one bath palace. Eagles and ravens perch in the two Sitka spruce trees in front of the house and decorate our front deck with scraps of fish, crab shells, and worse.
