| I bought EDM 900 at SnF 2005 and received the unit 4 weeks later. Took appx 40 hrs to install. CHT/OP/OT/FP/OAT/AMP/RPM/MAP sensors installed without issue. EGT probe #2 install@ 3.5" vice 3.0" on the other cyls due slip joint link restriction. FF sensor installed behind firewall in front of elec. BP. Pilot Guide provided with unit was outdated. I found this out after hours of frustration! Factory mode not available for access to default settings. Must use Laptop EzConfig II to change factory settings. I cannot get 75 gal default to reset to 42 gal. fuel total of RV8. Hooked Garmin 296 Blue and Yellow wires to unit and enabled fuel fuctions. I am using my Vans FQ gages vice EDM for fuel level readings. I am very satisfied with the performance of this instrument. I have been in contact with JPI teckies to resolve d/w load and programing issues. Correct manual for operation should be available soon. FAA certification dumbed down the unit for SPAM drivers. A damn since the unit is capable of doing more nice things. Be careful as always....Bob Hargrave
Update: Unit failed at 48 hours in service! No video what-so-ever-only cooling fan operations! returned unit and JPI chnged video processor and installed new s/w. They changed button operations as well and did not notify of changes. I still have not received updated operation manual for the thing as I requested. Manual is available online however. I really like download data capability. It allowed me to verify ignition problem with LSE Plasma II before unit actually failed 4 hours later. It's a good thing to have in your airplane...Bob Hargrave. |

| Here is what the final installation looks like. I tested it before flying to OLV and made adjustments to the HP Constant. Enroute, I was able to lean the engine per manual instructions. My actual vs computed burn was very close(.4gal). I was unable to select Normalize mode however. I learned later that FAA mandated removal of feature for certification. I was unable to download data following th flight. JPI provided s/w that enabled data download. I was unable to change factory default 75 gal to my 42 gal RV8. This was finally resolved with the help of JPI. Data disclosed interesting CHT characteristics of my airplane. Bob | |||||
