Biography of Bob Miller, author of The
Earth Speaks
Bob Miller was born in Montclair,
NJ on January 30, 1943 to George
and Florence Miller. He was born in Mountainside Hospital where his mother worked as an
X-ray technician.
Apart from some early moves, he grew up in Oakland, NJ. When he was thirteen, his family moved to Arlington Heights, IL. He attended the University of Illinois
where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He went on to earn an M.S. and Ph.D. in
elementary particle physics.
After a postdoctoral position at The College of William and
Mary in Williamsburg, VA,
he made contact with Bogdan Maglich at Rutgers
University in New Jersey.
He joined a group headed by Prof. Maglich to work on a novel approach to
fusion called Migma (Greek for "mixture," or sometimes
"mess"). Dr. Maglich formed a company called Fusion Energy
Corporation to promote and develop the concept. Migma was never embraced by the
U. S. Government and eventually most of the researchers moved to other things.
Following the fusion experience, Bob used his scientific and
computer experience at Princeton Gamma Tech and then at AT&T Bell
Laboratories. Bob stayed with AT&T
as it changed, and retired as a systems engineer from AT&T Laboratories in
May of 2005. The Earth Speaks was written in spare time over the last 12 years
Bob worked for AT&T.
Bob lives in Cranbury, NJ with his wife, Mary Kay (born Sheridan).
They have two grown children, Brendan and Stacey, of whom they are very
proud.
