Quantum Theory as applied to the electron falls is called Quantum Electrodynamics, QED. This theory explains electric field, electron mass, its magnetic moment, etc. via particle interchange. This model uses requires the same mathematics as QED to solve for properties of particles, but it also opens up another view of what the mathematics is solving or what is particle interchange. This integrated theory depends on QED being correct, just as it depends on general and special relativity being correct.
