Providence...
a big small city...
I called Providence home on and off the past 7 years. Brown University is located in the "East Side" of the city, while Rhode Island School of Design is centered around Main Street. A few miles away in the northwest part of the city is Providence College. 200,000 people call Providence their hometown. The city was founded in the 17th century by Roger Williams on land provided by the Narragansett Indians. The present mayor is Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, Jr. (I). You can learn more about the city by visiting its webpage, Providence: the Mayor's Homepage. As far as the NBC show named after the city and ostensibly set in it, I don't watch it regularly so I couldn't tell you if it's a fair depiction or not.

Thayer Street on the East Side, where Brown
and Hope High students shop.

Benefit Street and Waterman Street bordering downtown and the East Side.

The RI Capitol building, on Federal Hill in the heart of downtown.
