I decided that I wanted to detail my own SW-1500 to run on my brother's or father's layouts.  Availability of Athearn SW-1500s was quite limited at the time I was looking, and I found a WP unit at a good price, and I thought that it would make a simple prototype, and a good change of pace.

 

Unlike N-scale, I was easily able to find all of the details I wanted, available at several vendors.  And I won't have to scratchbuild or highly modify anything to work.  What's more, sound decoders are readily available in HO, so I'll be setting up this engine for DCC and sound (if one could install practical sound in single GPs in N-scale at this time, I'd be switching the Blue Creek RR over immediately).
