NOT TO DECLAW YOUR RAGDOLL CAT!!!
Here's an example of why we feel strongly about this issue. We recently received an e-mail
which distressed us nearly to tears. It shows in detail the horrible effects of declawing on our gentle Ragdolls:
"Help!!! I have a wonderful Ragdoll by the name of [name omitted].
She was a gift, and when I first got her she was playful, huggable, etc. We had her
declawed, and her personality totally changed. She became afraid of everything and
everyone except my husband and me. Thinking to brighten her world, we got another cat
to keep her company. It didn't help at all and, in fact, made it worse.
"She never holds up her tail anymore. She just holds it wrapped close to her body. Will my
original sweet Ragdoll cat ever come back to me? Did something happen when we had her declawed?
I feel so worried about her. She is small and is one and a half years old now. The vet
tells me she's ok."
It is too late for us to help this poor baby! She has been subjected to having the
tips of each one of her fingers cut off at the knuckle by the very people she loved and
trusted most in the world. Please don't do this to your Ragdoll! Purchase several carpeted
scratching posts or cardboard scratchers designed just for cats, and teach your Ragdoll how to use
them! Inflicting this sort of injury is outlawed in most countries, and it should be outlawed in the
USA, too!
