DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY

MEMORANDUM FOR ALL TREASURY EMPLOYEES

FROM: Robert E. Rubin

SUBJECT: Non-Discrimination Within the Department of the Treasury

It is my goal to make the Treasury Department a model workplace, free from prohibited discrimination, where every employee is assured an equal opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential.

I wanted to let each of you know that the Department has recently published its Employee Rules of Conduct in the Federal Register. The Rules of Conduct contain a non-discrimination provision, which states:

Employees shall not discriminate against or harass any other employee, applicant for employment or person dealing with the Department on official business on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, or disability. Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination and is prohibited by this section.

I expect all employees of the Department, at all levels, will ensure that their actions fully comply with the letter and spirit of these regulations. All of us have a responsibility to help provide a workplace where employees can thrive. Publishing and enforcing these rules is only a part of what we at Treasury will be doing to advance that goal.

If you have any questions about this policy, or about equal opportunity issues more generally, please do not hesitate to contact Ronald Glaser, Director, Office of Equal Opportunity Program
