Of Various Kinds

Walter started working around computers in 1959 as a punch card machine operator. He retired in 1984, having worked his way through the system to computer systems analyst. He has progressed through many programming languages and has taught himself HTML {HyperText Markup Language} by constructing well over 100 web pages for himself and others. For examples of his work, click on the links at the bottom of this page.

The following information is an attempt to inform customers and potential customers the policies, definitions and prices they can expect to pay for services rendered by Walter's Web Page Services.

For the design, research and development, consultations with the customer, and other expenses that will be incurred during initial phase of the project ---- $100.00 This is a one-time cost for each client.

• Development and HTML coding of pages:
  • Page containing up to 50 lines of coding------------------$30.00
  • Page containing 51 - 100 lines of coding-------------------50.00
  • Page containing more than 100 lines of coding-------------50.00 plus $10.00 per 20 lines

• Changes to existing pages:
  • NOTE: There is a minimum of $30.00 for making changes. This is to encourage customers to postpone minor changes until there is enough justification for making the changes.
  • Up to 50 lines of coding addition or change--------------$30.00
  • Up to 100 lines of coding addition or change--------------50.00
  • More than 100 lines of coding------------------------------50.00 plus $10.00 per 20 lines

• Photographs/documents by digital camera or digital scanner:
  • Each photograph or document scanned---------------------$10.00
  • Alteration of photograph or document image---------------negotiable

• Graphics:
  • The graphics that I use are those that I have found on various graphics libraries throughout the world-wide-web. I use only graphics from libraries where the owner has given permission for them to be used without reimbursement. Occasionally they might require a link back to their page. If this is the requirement, you will notice a graphic and link on your page. This is a small price to pay for some of the graphics that enhance your web page.

• Definitions:
  • Index-page: This is your home page, usually the first page that visitors see. Links to other pages of yours will normally be on this page. You may also have links to pages outside your domain here.
  • Sub-page: This is a page where you can further describe and illustrate items, ideas, pictures or other data from your home or index page. Common to sub-pages are pictures, forms, extensive narrative and illustrative graphics.
  • Thumbnail: This is a small reproduction of a photograph or document. The most common use for a thumbnail is to link to its full size. Many times you might have a group of thumbnails on a page, thus giving viewers the option to select which full-size pictures they wish to view.
  • For purposes of estimating the number of lines in the above calculations, I have established a line of coding as the width of the screen or any part thereof. If you view the source coding you will see spaces between lines of coding. These spaces are for my benefit in setting apart the divisions of the page and are not included in calculating the size of the page.
  • Counters: If you want a counter on your home (index) page, I will use one of the free commercial counters available. The cost will be the number of coding lines necessary to initiate the counter.

Let me discuss a web site with you. First discussion of no more than one hour, $30.00, if you decide you do not want a web site, otherwise it is included in the one-time cost mentioned at the beginning of this document.
