Summer Reading Assignment for Fall 2009 APUSH

For this assignment we would like you to focus on the beginnings of colonial history in the history of North America.  There are two elements to this assignment and you will be required to turn in both sections on the first day of classes in August.

A. You will need to buy the textbook in order to complete the assignment.  We have arranged for you to buy the book from the school.  It will cost $52 and you should make checks out to RCHS. The books will be delivered on Tuesday, June 2.  We strongly urge that you buy it on Tuesday or during the rest of the week.  The school will only be open two days a week during the summer. The book comes packaged free with two volumes of primary documents that we will be using throughout the year.

Read the following pages: Chapter 1: pp. 9-14 and 22-33; Chapter 2: pp. 36 -64; Chapter 3: pp. 66 – 94 and then answer the following questions.  Your answers should be typed or written extremely neatly.  You don’t need complete sentences, but can answer in phrases and bullet points.  Include enough information so that you demonstrate that you understand the material and can remember it when reviewing it, but don’t go overboard.  Do not simply copy word-for-word from the book, but rephrase your answers into your own words.

You may go online to Mrs. Newmark’s website to download this assignment in order to have the questions in a document ready for your answers. http://home.att.net/~betsynewmark/SummerReadingAPUSH.htm
